2004 Prius Heater Blower Fan Issue

    My 04 Prius blower fan quit working. Took it out and jumped it to a battery and it would not move until I gave it some help. No worries, ordered a new one and plugged it into the harness. It will not spin even wirh help. Pulled the plug on the harness and checked voltage and I get around 13.5V at the harness plug. I get 13.5V in the range from low to high so I figured it would work.
    Fan still will not spin so I am confused as to why when I get 13.5V at the harness in the car and if I disconnect the pigtail from the fan and plug it in I still get the same voltage through the pigtail. Thought maybe the pigtail was bad.
    Just not sure what to think.
    Ideas?

    Sounds like your new fan has a bad connection. Use and ohm meter and check the resistance of the motor connector. Should be a very small value.

    Don't forget, a blower fan isn't merely controlled by an on-off switch. There's a controller in the circuit. I would say the blower motor resistor/controller fails 10x more often than the fan. Maybe that needs a bit of investigation.

    Thanks for the tip. I have one on order should be here Monday.
    Going to run a 12V connection from the power supply (cigarette lighter) to a homemade pigtail to run the fan untul then. Will only run on high but at least it will clear my windshield.
    Appreciate the response. I will let you all know if the resistor/controller did the trick.

    Replaced the fan resistor/controller and it fixed the issue. Also I did end up replacing the blower motor the old one would work but so noisy it was not worth the aggravation of leaving it in there.
