Hello everyone, this is my first post and hopefully my last!

I just bought a used 2010 Prius III Gen. with about 120,000 miles on it. I bought it knowing that there is a "Check Hybrid System" with a P0A80 code. The previous owner informed me that the hybrid battery was replaced with a Green Bean refurbished battery. It has been tested and has around 60% capacity, which is considered "fair". I have a Carista OBD2 with the app to clear the code. The "Check Hybrid System" clears, but the P0A80 code says it is "Permanent". Everything seems to work fine for about 30 miles or so until the "Check Hybrid System" comes on again.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am on a budget and I am willing to play wack a mole with the cells if I have to. From my understanding, this code could mean a number of things. Since the hybrid battery is still in "fair" condition, I do believe that it is something else. The battery does not drain completely and seems to maintain a charge after clearing the code. Any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated!

Thanks everyone! I look forward to fixing this problem and eventually selling it for a good price.

Please use Dr. Prius app so we can see some screenshots of the battery monitor, as well the error codes before they cleared and we can help advise. Perhaps it's an easier fix than a rebuild?

Also, have you contacted GreenBean to get a sense of where they are with warranty on it? If that's an option swapping the pack out with a replacement one is the easiest fix.

Ask the previous owner to contact green bean and do the transfer or ownership.
That way you can get the battery replaced and installed by them.

Then and only then will it have a warranty.

The permanent code is there because the battery was bad hence why he got a green bean battery.

You have to drive it and eventually the code will go away.

Drive it around and look to find declines to coast down and press lightly on the breaks to charge it up faster.

If you have to reset to codes when it pops up and coontinue to do so until the battery is charged good.

Who knows how long the previous owner let it sit during this pandemic.

The Green Bean battery was installed around 100,000 miles. It currently has 122,000 miles.
