Reconditioning Experience with Hybrid Automotive's Prolong System

    What was the issue? It was impossible to determine it wasn't working properly from your picture.

    I just ran Dr. Prius app on my 07 with 165k miles on it and it came back 79%.

    Based on that I’m guessing this is good candidate for reconditioning ?

    I don’t have outdoor electric outlet so I have to run cord out from inside, given it’s winter maybe run one charge and balance then do the five day charge/discharge in the spring when I can have windows open?

    Can the prolong battery charger and discharger be used on a battery that has been taken out of the car? I dont have a way to run the cable to the parking lot.

    Yes , some people also disassemble the pack and change bus bars and clean the terminals. If you get it inside you may as well take the extra time to do that

    It can used out of the car but when out of the car the battery’s fan system no longer works so you must cool the battery’s really well with fans and monitor the pack temp.
    And never release the mechanical tension on the battery while charging.
    When unclamped the battery’s will swell and the pack will be ruined.

    Hello, I have started the reconditioning procedure for my high voltage battery of my "prius" gen3 200k miles "hybrid car, as a preventive measure. My dashboard does not throw an "error" light. I also do not have any batterycode with the Techstream software. But, the test with "Hybrid Assistant" proves that I have 4 weak blocks (5,6,7,8) which pull the pack down.

    I use the "PROLONG DELUXE CHARGER" for the first time . I have a few questions regarding the procedure.


    First, I started the process on Friday evening, I did 3 charge-discharge cycles ", but I did not leave a break between cycles. I went directly to the" charge-discharge-charge ". Is there any danger to my battery? The maximum ambient temperature is 33 degrees Celsius.


    Second question: I am currently finishing the final charge and final balancing, I plan to charge it at least 24h. My question is, 30 minutes after the end of the final charge, should I discharge to the rated voltage before starting the car?

    No, this is pretty much standard procedure.

    As long as you wait at LEAST 30 minutes before driving, it should be OK, but waiting longer won't hurt anything. Neither will doing a bit of a discharge with the Prolong. You can also discharge by starting the car and immediately shifting to neutral and then turning on the air conditioner and headlights. Then you can watch the HV battery monitor on your dash. Neutral prevents the car from charging the battery since it doesn't yet realize how full the battery is after you finish balancing it.

    In addition to what jerrymildred posted, pay attention to the overall temperature. You're fine at the current 33 degrees Celsius but don't use the Prolong system when it exceeds about 37.5 degrees Celsius. At that temperature it can't efficiently "bleed off" the excess heat generated and you could further weaken a cell..

    Sounds pretty normal. Sometimes it can get a little over 140, but it'll fluctuate a few degrees as it balances.

    But today is first day of travel of my prius gen3 2010 200k miles after the "reconditioning HV battery with prolong deluxe"

    I did two tests:


    - "hybrid assistant hv check battery"


    -Test of the life of the battery with the Drprius software. The hv battery behaves in a weird way, it looks like they've gone crazy. It went up to 80% "SOC" before going down to "20%". But the voltage level was high, even with a SOC at 20%.


    I also felt more torque under acceleration than before.


    What worries me is the result provided by Drprius, it announces a percentage of only 45% of estimated capacity. Here are the results in pictures.
