What is wrong with my timing P0016

    How did you end up with a tensioner half an inch shorter? From a different make or model of car?

    Well, hopefully, you learned something important from that.
    Plus, always match up the replacement part with original one.
    And there are some things that are just smart to buy new, and from a reliable sorce.

    Even though the Gen 4 engine that I obtained for my project was at/near only it’s first oil change, I put a brand new tensioner on it before install. It’s just too critical of a part to skimp on.

    I'm not a real mechanic I only play one on the internet. No seriously I think the damper springs are weak due to the head gasket rattle, so how hard is it to replace and is there a diagnostic procedure. Do you need to fully pull the engine or just partially separate it?

    To wrap this up I confirmed the timing and replaced the tensioner. This resolved the P0016 but I also added new spark plugs coils and injectors. These Items needed to be replaced at 180k anyway.

    No it still missfires, taking it to a specialist on Monday... He suspects a leak in the intake somewhere. Will keep you posted.

    they could not figure it out. I double checked piston travel and found number four to go 3 millimeters lower than the rest. I suspect bent rod or worn bearing.
