Yes, assuming that warranty hasn’t yet expired (8 years or 100,000 miles) and none of its other exclusions applies.

In fairness to the dealer, the part has several names: the Repair Manual (more info) calls it the “battery smart unit,” but Toyota’s parts catalog lists the same part as the “battery voltage sensor,” and neither of these names appears verbatim in Policy 4.25, Hybrid Vehicle System Component Warranty, in the Toyota Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual.

Fortunately for you, the Warranty & Maintenance Guide (PDF) provided with the car sets the actual terms of the warranty, and on page 13, it lists “Battery control module (battery voltage sensor)” as one of the parts covered by the Hybrid System Warranty. If that’s not sufficient evidence for the dealer, the three-step escalation procedure is on page 5 of the Guide.

Depends on the dealership... So I'm not sure. Sounds like it's the fine print that will help you or hurt you.

So got a call this afternoon, the dealer’s warranty administrator stated the part is not covered under the hybrid system warranty, however Toyota corporate did agreed to cover the repair. Hats off to Toyota for stepping up and doing the right thing!

    No it does NOT.
It depends on what the warranty from Toyota SAYS.
The dealer has nothing to do with it.

Sounds to me like the dealer is just covering up for their initial LIE.
