Interested - but wouldn't want to be the "early adopter"...

 

The problem I had with another brand of LED strips was that the wires going to the strips were the tiniest gauge. Now, for home use I guess that would be fine as that is all that is needed to move the current. For vehicle use, with road vibrations, those tiny wires were the failure points at or near the lights.

 

I found that to be true of a couple of LED lighting devices I've installed on our sailboat. (retrofitting the old incandescent pictures) The fine wires are tough to work with - not east to splice or even make a good connection when there are only a few strands to work with. Even stripping them requires more precision tools.

 

All great points. The plan has to be to solder the wires to an existing larger wire or wire harness, then considering using the liquid electrical tape on both that area and at the point of light attachment. Even then, failures eventually occurred.

So for these turn signal lights, as long as the installation doesn't mar the finish of the mirror at all - in that one could take them off when one stopped working, and not leave a mark while doing so - might be worth trying out for funsies.

 

Ordered off Amazon for $50, jumped up to $70 the next day. Claims to have a year warranty. Should be here in a week. Going to give it a try based off these steps Avest Side Mirror install | PriusChat . Having trouble finding the pin ends/molex connector/harness pins so I can route the wires through the empty pin slots in the door connectors.

Got one side installed with wires but not connected to blinkers yet. Not liking the flat color or brown and plan on vinyl wrapping it gloss one day. Tested wire continuity while putting connections back together and make sure they light up. Added sound insulation to the door while it was off. Hoping my wiring under the dash looks like the diagrams and pictures I've seen in other installs. Worse case I run a wire to the rear blinkers. This is on a 2020 Prime Limited.

 

Kit did not come with wires so had to get 20ga wire, 2.54mm molex connectors & a crimper. Took some trial & error learning what a good crimp was & to make it neat enough to slide into the pin harness.
Also ran puddle light wires incase these blinkers fail & I decide to go with Avest later on.
Tapping into power was easier that expected on my 2020 Prime Limited. Only used the positive blinker wire & made my own ground as I ran low on taps.
Got it all working & looks cool. I did notice some moisture inside the windows now when it rains so need to pull the door panels apart again & check over my seals. Mirror rattled a bit too until I pushed on it again & heard another snap.

Hopefully these pictures help anyone else attempting side blinkers.

Still on this theme, my gen4 has blinkers on the mirrors - stands to logic that it should have an electrical connection there already, thus making this much easier to do?

 

Oh yeah should be plug & play or only splicing the 2 wires in the mirror.

 

Thanks. I'd say one would have to be familiar with crimping small wires & pins. I was worried what if the factory pins came out,so caution should be used if your non familiar with hooking up electric stuff or clumsy. Haha
In theory one could bypass the clean method of hiding the wires & just run a cable to the door by poking through the wire cover then seal with silicone.
