And after how many miles does it require an oil change? Last I changed it was 5,000 miles ago. Also how do I find the oil filter I need? I’m shopping at Walmart btw.

Toyota dealership parts department is easiest; they're about $8 up here.

C'mon... Toyota USA says 10K miles or 12 months, or 5K miles or 6 months, for "severe service". You can read up in the Warranty and Maintenance Booklet. If it's missing, you can download pdf from Toyota Tech Info, in the "Manuals" section.

Fram Ultra XG10358 is available at Walmart. Walmart also sells Mobil 1 0W-20 Extended Performance High Mileage (5 qt jug.)

Check Mobiloil.com for any potential rebates available.

How my 2013 II w/ 101,389 miles and driving in LosAngeles traffic, I go with 0W-20 High Mileage and its seems running smother and less more oil trap under throttle body. I change every 5K or every 6mos.

Unless you have seal leaks or weeping, you don't want to use high mileage oil. It swell the rubber seals.

My 2010 with 137k miles is burning oil, I have not used the high mileage oil yet. Just top off whenever it gets low. It seems to be worse when I drive over 85mph on the freeway. I may try and engine flush before I do that. But I may have to go to high mileage oil just to reduce the oil consumption. Definitely changing oil every 5000 miles.....that should be for every car. That 10000 miles change is a way to sell you a new car faster.

High mileage oil does nothing for degraded oil control rings. It only swells the engine seals.

The low expansion pressure or tension oil control rings started to "degrade" from abrasive and carbon residue in the oil and clogging of the passages many miles ago. Nothing but replacing the rings will affect oil blow by except piston ring replacement.

Exceptionally frequent oil changes is the only was to delay oil ring degradation.

The Toyota recommended 10k miles is too long. 3-5k or every 6 months will assure longer oil control ring life and forestall blow by oil burning.

It's not in the interest of the car manufacturers to promote the 3k miles oil change. The engine is warranted for 60k to 100k miles at the high end. The threshold standard for oil consumption is very high for a reason. It's to protect the manufacturer, not the customer.

Oil consumption and oil control ring piston ring were and clogging will even become more prevalent in the future with the adoption of turbo charged engines and their higher operating pressures.

That is one reason that I will never buy a car with a turbo charged engine.

he was the feller who posted a thread “where is the starter on the Prius” back while ago. And also everyone told him to buy a battery charger when he was stranded at Walmart. After he bought it, there was no power outlet in the parking lot to plug into charge the 12v bat.

I remember a time when I started driving and 1 yr/3000 mi was for our old Caddy, 1 yr/2500 mi for our old Mercedes Diesel, (severe service). Then I learned of synthetic oils, which back then emphasized the fact that they don't qualify for extended drain intervals.

Now oil manufacturers are starting to follow Amsoil's 1 yr/25 k mi interval as Mobil 1 and Castrol are offering 1 yr/20 k mi oils. Just curious if people accept Amsoil's claim but not Mobil's nor Castrol's?

(I noticed Valvoline is smart they're following customer non-acceptance and even though they offer an Extended Protection product it does not equate to extended drain intervals)...
