Because they already own it & the climate is mild enough to permit it?

There’s more space in a Prius 2nd Gen than there is in a Mercury or Gemini Space Capsule I’d wager.
Of course one person can camp out in a Prius II easily with the right equipment, and thoroughly enjoy the experience .

I have also seen people put another 12v battery in parallel in order to get more time before recharge cycles when they are using alot of 12v power - usually a 120v inverter.

if you can handle less space the prius prime goes all night without starting up at all. It also has a recharge mode so you can recharge the 9kw battery without plugin in if you need to do super stealth camping.

The Prius Prime will not let you sit in the car and run the a/c for more than 10 minutes WHILE CONNECTED TO A CHARGE POINT. I consider this a design flaw and a security risk. If the weather is hot or cold, or if the neighborhood surrounding the charge point insecure, the safest place you can be is ensconced in your car listening to the radio and running the climate control, with the doors locked. Does anyone know why Toyota forbids this?

maybe there is a problem with charging the battery, and draining it at the same time?

I'm against people reviving very old and dormant threads, but just have to correct this.

Another battery in parallel will NOT increase the time before recharging cycles.

In READY mode, 12v power is provided by the high voltage traction battery using a DC to DC converter, not the 12v battery. A second battery is just another load that the traction battery has to provide electricity for, so it would actually decrease the time between recharging cycles.

The 12v battery is mostly used for firing up the computer so that the traction battery can start the car and establish READY. A second 12v battery in parallel will also permit longer ACC (accessory mode) time. Only in ACC mode are you actually using the 12v battery to supply power.

Once you are in READY mode, the 12v battery is just a draw on the traction battery. All power in READY mode is obtained from the traction battery.

If you're using a DC to AC converter on the 12v then I think J Cakes scenario makes sense and doesn't need correcting..

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I thought the whole purpose of camping was to get outdoors, be in nature, etc.
And one of the reasons to own a hybrid is to save the planet, use less fuel, put less CO2 into the atmosphere, etc., so we CAN still go outside and not burst into flames.
So why, WHY, would anyone ever want to go to the great outdoors then hide inside a car?!?!? Put another way: Why go to Italy for the cuisine then only eat Mickey D's?
Buy a tent, a good-sized one you can stand up in, put it up in the shade. Get some lightweight clothes, breathable fabrics. Maybe a beer or a swim in the ol' swimming hole if you get a touch warm. Or learn to deal with the temp., 'hot' & 'cold' are mostly mental anyway.

That said, to the question. Here in FL, A/C set at 75F, fan on setting 4, DRLs off, radio on, in a shady spot with a full charge, outside temp in the low 90s (std FL 6-month long summer daytime temps) my battery is drained enough to kick the ICE on (2 bars) in about 15-20 mins. ICE runs long enough, about 3 minutes, to put it back to 3 bars. Then it's every 5-ish mins until I drive it. I won't get into how the MPG plummets.

You live in the sweatbox of Orlando!!! It's hotter & more humid there than by the coast. How many years have you been without sleep?
You need to live in Nunavut, or northern Alaska, maybe Siberia with those needs. Even Iceland is too warm for you. Good luck.

Fubar: My first floor home ac is a 5 ton heat pump that gets humidity down to 35% and 70f for second floor is a 2 ton also set to slow fan speed. Nice and dry. How about yours? Does yur AC work well?

Yeppers. Keeps me a comfortable 78 F. Until "fall" shows up in Nov and the high temps finally drop under ~82 & the lows start getting into the mid-60s then the windows get opened until mid-April(-ish) when summer reasserts itself.
All that gets me $65 summer bills & sub-$30 winter bills. This place is seriously well insulated & I've got great shade from some mature live oaks for a natural assist.
