My messages are not going through since they are awaiting a moderator. In any case, my warning lights came on. The ABS, brake, and traction control. The car feels sluggish now and the brakes are harder to actuate but it is still driveable.

Because it is past 150,000, I think it is past coverage under the ZJB warranty extension.

You might want to see what an independent shop would charge for the repair.

Some people might look for used parts, though a used part might be near the same condition, and the labor of replacement isn't something you'd choose to pay for twice.

    Can you drive it there?
Agree to diagnostic fee THAT IS $0 IF IT'S THE CORRECT CODES.
I'm pretty sure your good to go.......

The v wagon is unlimited miles until Dec 31st. The hatchback unlimited mile expired Aug 31. Both will continue to have 10 year/150,000 coverage based on original purchase date.

Of course that would just be my luck. The pruis was in the shop for a long time for the head gasket replacement. Only to come home to this problem. Had it happened before the head gasket was taken in to get replaced. It would have been before Aug. I wonder if Toyota can make an exception based on certain circumstances? If not, then I guess I will try to do this on my own.

Thank toy for another blunder..........gen 3 total nightmare when they get some miles on them...
Next will be the traction battery.
    Has the inverter blown yet?
The brake fiasco will set you back up to $2500 installed at toy. I put a used one in my car and it went out but luckily the junk went out and I had the correct codes....
Hope it works out........prius.......gets good mpg but that's about it...............

The funny thing is, I got this vehicle to use as the commuter and to teach my son to drive and then eventually having it become his first car. I had high expectations for it. And I went with the toyota so I don't have to deal with issues exactly like this. If it isn't covered, I will attempt to do it myself. I just finished spending upwards of $1k on the head gasket and EGR. Anything else that comes up after this and I will either sell it or burn it.

You should try calling Toyota corporate. If not successful, consider fixing it one way or the other. To bleed an empty master cylinder is not diy unless you have Techstream or one of the more expensive Pro scanners. The two assembly brake booster system is quite a job, about six hours by the book for a pro.

Used parts are a gamble because of the labor and can be the wrong part. Many Prius versions look the same, but they include a brake ecu which has revisions by year and tire size. Most used suppliers don't know this and may send you the wrong part. You want to verify your part numbers by vin and then verify their part by the vin it came from.

You could buy new parts online, install and then get a dealer to calibrate and flush the master cylinder. That is the better solution, especially if you intend to keep it.

There was a class action suit but I believe Toyota "settled" by agreeing to the expanded warranty that was already in place.

If you could find a good non hybrid to replace the Prius, I would get the Prius running and then sell it, especially if it burns oil or has the original high voltage battery. As Tim suggests, the gen3 Prii are very expensive to own after 150k miles. A 2016 or newer hatchback is reengineered to resolve these issues except for a battery around 175k - 200k. An older Rav4 is a pretty safe bet.

I think the brakes parts only are $1200........might be more....
    To keep
    AC works Good
    Water Pump..... not hard
Inverter water pump...... I've done it.....
    Change Trani fluid....easy
    Inverter updates current
And at any moment... Traction Battery
And the engine doesn't use any oil or just a very small amount every 4 to 5000 miles

Ok, got the entire brake system repaired at Toyota. They actually got it covered under phase 2. Based on the TSB, I didn't qualify due to mileage, but they covered it so I am thankful. And just to add insult to injury, the next day after getting it back and on our way to work, the engine blew (threw a rod). So now I need to find an engine and swap that out. Yay me. But thank you all for your help with the ABS stuff.
