So ive finally pulled the blink codes from my other Pri and what i got is (!)64 and (!) 65; ABS 42.

Why is this info not more readily available? Anyone know what those mean. Im aware its a speed sensor but which?

Since you already have Dr Prius working, what OBD2 codes (DTCs) does it report?

On this pri, there are no trouble codes, except eventually a P0420 will be thrown but it has a bijjillion miles on it and a sorted, sketchy history...it was actually rodney king's daughters car, i shit you not.

i assume by DTC codes you mean check engine codes that an OBD2 can pull. right?

Why not use an OBD2 code reader (example: Dr Prius) to retrieve the stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (or DTCs) ?

I thought the OBD2 couldnt pull ABS codes? I thought they only show check engine codes. At least in my experience. Is this not right?

Still the original question is what are those blink codes saying?

I see your profile says a 2005 and you're posting in the Gen 2 forum; does that mean your "other Pri" is a Gen 2?

    ECB 64 = C1343 = a right rear hydraulic system malfunction.
    ECB 65 = C1344 = a left rear hydraulic system malfunction.

ABS 42 simply means "yo, you have codes on the ECB light, go look there."

It is kept in that deep unmentioned repository of secret inaccessible knowledge known as the repair manual (more info). The only part that throws people sometimes is that those "yo, look at other light" codes like ABS 42 got left out of some editions of the Gen 2 manual, so they mystify people sometimes, but later manuals have them (more info).

I am not sure how you became "aware its a speed sensor" since none of those codes would pertain to a speed sensor.

Those hydraulic malfunction codes indicate that the brake ECU targeted a certain fluid pressure to send to that corner of the car, but the pressure didn't reach the target, or overshot the target, or couldn't be held steady enough around the target. They can have various causes including hydraulic leaks, dodgy valves in the actuator, or an out-of-round brake rotor (which makes the fluid pressure vary as the wheel goes around). The manual has a troubleshooting section of around eight pages to help get to the bottom of it.

Those C1343 and C1344 codes also have some 3-digit "INF" codes that go with them, that can help pin down what is happening a little more closely. You can only get the INF codes with a scan tool; the blink method doesn't show those.

You've already tried using the OBD2 bluetooth adapter with Dr Prius on this vehicle and it didn't return any codes?
A simple "search" pulled up this older post by @dolj .

2008 PRIUS: hum under hood, VSC + brake + ABS + (!) lights on, DTC: C1343 | PriusChat

Here is the workup for DTCs C1341, C1342, C1343, C1344 (all with various detailed codes - aka INFs)
    https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Prius%20Service%20Manuals%202004/%E4%BF%AE%E7%90%86%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8C/04pruisr/05/21avn/cic13416.pdf

Don't forget that 'Search' (upper right corner) is your friend (when working correctly), and someone can always help when or if it ever fails.

Correct , both Pri are exact clones of each other but fir body damage I bought on one for a few hundred to use my good hv battery in. Both with their unique set of issues.

So I reset the abs and ! Light and have been driving really hard for the past hour or so and they’ve not returned but the check engine light did. I suspect that’s just gonna b p0420 which I will not battle ever again. Just cut the cat off like those junkies did to me. Coolest sounding Prius ever . Anyway. Does that mean that I fixed this issue? Or just need to have an abs event for them to come back? I swear the car is driving significantly better but I also ate a weed chocolate bar earlier so placebo is possible. I don’t have my scan tool but I think p0420 is all I’ll pull when I get home. Dr Prius can’t pull abs codes but I feel like I’m in the clear till the next big bump slam on breaks that set them off years ago….

maybe I should also mention that this car had its brake actuator/accumulator? Replaced and the codes went off and I could break in the car again because driving it was absolutely no breaks it was terrifying but I wasn’t gonna call tow truck. All seems well for a week until I didn’t see a dip in the road so slammed on the brakes and the lights appeared since then everything‘s been driving fine until now. Also when I got the car the HP battery had exploded, the wiring harness was cut off the 12 V, And several open 40s spilled in the backseat…. Not to mention the car had a lien on it oh. My point being I don’t know how good of a job those folks at the king of hybrid and Riverside California did. He read the codes as a rear wheel sensor which would match with blink code 42. I just wonder with the 64 65 means… And which speed sensor. Maybe one of these other OBD two apps will have more info on sensors

Not sure which bluetooth adapter you're using, but to clarify : "This app requires a ELM327 Bluetooth OBD interface to communicate with your hybrid vehicle, most of the cheap clone ELM327 will not work due to inability to switch between ECUs in your vehicle. Please visit Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus for more detail or feel free to email us for any adapter compatibility question. It is generally NOT a good idea to use WiFi OBD2 adapter due to the interruption of the internet during the connection."
Give Torque a try (the lite version should be fine), as it doesn't require a quality adapter.

This speed sensor business must have something to do with the chocolate bar.

You can look at post #9 again for what the 64 and 65 mean, and the 42 blinked on the ABS light. None of those has anything to do with a speed sensor.

If you had 42 blinked on the ((!)) light, it would be a power supply problem to the brake ECU (not a speed sensor).

If you had 42 blinked on the tire pressure light, it would mean an error signal was received three times from the #2 registered tire pressure sensor (not speed sensor).

42 blinked on your ABS light just means to look at the codes blinked on your ((!)) light.

There is no 42 blink code on your Prius that "would match with" a rear wheel sensor. I am not sure where you got that notion.

I got that notion from sketchy Arab guy who didn’t want to cover his bad replacement of a break break accumulator/actuator and brake cylinder or something like that. Basically the car had no brakes at all except for the emergency brake. OK so the! Codes were 64 and 65.

thanks for all your help in this as I’m a newbie admittedly but the only things I know about mechanics are the things I’ve learned on the Prius oh, sorry Pri . i’ve had several of the same pre-over the years. When the traction battery goes bad people just get rid of them for dirt cheap. This particular one was hiding a bunch of other problems.

What do you make of the codes staying off after I cleared them? I’ve been driving around breaking a lot but not doing donuts obviously. I feel so successful having no lights on my dash and I basically brand new battery in the back but I fear if I hit another slam on the brakes situation I’ll get all the same lights.

If the ABS 42 just means he look at your break code and those were 6465. What does that mean was wrong or is wrong still,
    "
Im sorry this whole posting/replying stuff is new to me. So sorry if i miss posts and reply out of order. I see the (!) 64 and 65 mean something with the hydrolics in the rear....but the lights have stayed off and the cars running better than ever, knocking on wood it stays that way. Im sure the mfd will go blank and the dash lights will go away periodically but i already know the simple fixes for those games.

Also the check engine light that I mentioned coming on was not a p420 check engine light it was an “ aye your clusters going blank fir a bit till you fiddle with the mfd” light, which this car also does and I’m not willing to take apart the dash right now fix it

I see youve also found a post with my exact same blink codes, So what would a rear hydrolic malfunction present as symptoms? And if the light doesnt come back, is all well?

I went thru so many different crap adapters, this little black one recommended by dr prius worked, the blue one they recommended didnt, my ELM wifi didnt , and my ELM USB didnt. Ill give torque a try because i downloaded techstream only to find i need minivlc to use it and its wayyy complicated (plus i hate windows nowadays)
