Gen 2: List of recommended related parts to replace when (using OEM) replacing HV battery

    I’m going to do the OEM hybrid/traction battery rebuild. I looked, but didn’t see any posts cleanly listing the parts related to replacing/rebuilding the battery w OEM battery.

    Q: What parts did you see as you went along that you wished you had ordered before you were in the middle of the job?

    I know there’s stuff that needs to be moved from the old battery to the new and a core returned, but not what stuff that is/isn’t.

    I’ll go to YouTube and start watching videos, of course, but know this community will have some smart insights. TIA!​

    That's the thread I was looking for! It's not really chock full of the information I hoped for, but has some tidbits for sure.

    I'm kind of surprised I can't find videos here or on youtube other than "unbolt the old one and put in a remanufactured entire unit from somebody else," also addressed in the thread.

    If you're doing the OEM battery replacement, one of your concerns will be the battery ecu. Your new OEM battery will have a new "wire frame #2", but frequently the ecu has significant corrosion on the socket pins where the WF#2 is inserted.

    Also give the cooling fan a good cleaning while you're in there.

    You'll also see a set of wires near the cooling fan bracket with a plug and socket. That plug and socket often develops corrosion on two of the pins and is typically very obvious. Now would be a good time to just cut the wires on each side of the plugs and splice them together. I've done it on all my Gen 2s and many customers.

    Perfectly the kind of hints that help, thanks! I've done the fan cleaning before but didn't know about the other hints,

    I guess I'm the next person telling myself I'll make a video of the process when I do it now, heh. I'll make sure to cover any hints/tips I get in this thread when I do it in my mind. Thanks again.

    Can someone confirm that new oem batteries come without the two rubber vent tubes?

    Yes confirmed, they do not come with new vent tubes. You reuse the old ones.

    If they are smelly, you can fashion replacements from some silicon tubing. I think some people might even leave them off entirely if they were smelly, gooey or otherwise objectionable.

    Thanks. I notice you are in New Zealand... assuming this will be the case in the US too. I'm very familiar with the smelly vent tubing issue - I replaced mine with silicone tubing shortly after I bought my car.
