    Hi all

I have a 2011 prius that my niece was driving one day and died and won't start

She is young and could not remember anything out of the ordinary when the car stopped running

The car says check hybrid system so we had a new HV pack installed

The car would go into Ready mode and we can drive it in forward and Reverse but the ICE never came on. After a few seconds the ready light will drop and the check engine light came on and we scanned the code for misfire in cylinder 1 2 4 and 5 as well as the crank position sensor

We replaced all the coil packs and a new crank position sensor. All OEM parts

We can start the car and we noticed the pulley never moves (the pulley that is connected to the crankshaft which is bybthe passenger wheel)

We took it to a local Toyota dealer and they said we need a new transmission which they quoted $4800

Car has 288k so it is not worth the repair cost

We have a feeling they might just think we are suckers and will pay them

Hoping to ask the gurus here if it might be something simple

I read that if the car drives in reverse then the electric motor is working which elimates the transmission being bad

    Any help would be appreciated

That's a very expensive way to proceed when the hybrid system includes so much more than the battery and "check hybrid system" can mean so many things to check.

At this point that's now a sunk cost, but you can avoid incurring more such costs by making sure you get the trouble codes that indicate what issue the car is reporting. You can post those codes here and then more specific advice will be possible.

If the motor is blown when we start the car the pulley connected to the crankshaft should still spin. There is no movement of the crankshaft when the cat goes into Ready mode

Can you post a video or audio recording of any sounds as the car is going ready, and in the following 20 seconds or so?
