2022 base model Prius AWD speaker ugrade

    Hi everyone..

    Base model 2022 speakers leave a lot to be desired. I don't have the time to replace them myself and just went to a local shop who quoted me all over the place. So a couple questions for y'all in hopes to gain a better understanding of what I'm getting into.

    When checking out Crutchfield they don't have any info on the 2022, only the 21 model Prius. Would the same speakers work for the 2022?

    Any recommendations from everyone on best move forward? I'm thinking of just replacing the speakers and see if it makes a large enough difference. I could use some more volume and a touch more bass. I KNOW a sub and amp would be nice but also adds a butt load to the cost.

    So I guess long story short. What is the easiest way to purchase good quality upgrades and take to a pro to install. I don't want to have to mess up any connections or use a different screen. I don't want the Toyota OEM system to screen at anything I do.

    The one thing I got out of my discussion with the dude at the shop was that if they ran aux out it's much cheaper but isn't direct and clean. I don't need neighborhood crushing sound so I'm not talking top of the line. Just really some key points on what to look for.

    The biggest difference in my post to what I've found is I'm not looking to do it myself. So trying to keep it simple. Hope that makes sense.

    Also I can't edit. . that is supposed to say I don't want the Toyota OEM system to scream at me for anything.
    And another simple question I suppose to summarize is ... Can I get the recommended speakers from Crutchfield for the 2021 model, take it to an installer and call it a day?

    I know this reply is late, but I see no one has replied and wanted to provide my experience. sometimes sites like Crutchfield don't like to state they are compatible unless they get confirmation that previous years are the same as the newest year. Considering those speakers of 2021 are the same size as what I used in 2019, then very high likelihood 2022 will be the same.

    The OEM speakers are paper thin and were made to be "efficient". It handles bass pretty well, but the audio isn't as clean as other speakers. Note that the OEM head unit has been heavily tweaked to match the efficiency of the speakers. So adding in new speakers will be limited by the head unit considering you can't do much audio config changes on the unit. Changing out speakers, for the most part, will not require any new rewiring and you will use the existing wiring unless you are installing component speakers. Adding in a new head unit on the other hand will require some wiring, but there are adapters out there that will help you retain the original OEM. I took that route. A new head unit will provide you better audio control and quality, as well as low level outputs if you do wish to add an amp or sub in the future. Without an amp though, then your head unit will only have a max output wattage it can output, so if you do wish to turn up the volume, your speakers may not sound too pleasant because of possible clipping.

    Where did you find a wiring harness for the Prius? I got a 22 XLE non prime. I heard Toyota switched the harnesses behind the radio in 2020. What they current sell on CF is the wrong harness.

    If you upgrade your speakers (Kicker is a good option if you don't want to spend too much) and don't upgrade your head unit, I would highly suggest getting a mini amp. Something like an Alpine KTA-450. Aftermarket speakers will require more power to sound good and stock head units just don't have it.

    I was speaking only for the swapping of speakers from a 2021 to a 2022 based on what was asked from the OP. As for your statement about the harness is definitely another issue, most impacting an aftermarket headunit install or adding in new components like an amplifier. My previous post does not address that separate issue, but it is unrelated to the OP question.
