    Hi everyone,
I have a 2015 Toyota Prius 2. I’ve ordered a hitch for the car along with the wiring to tow a 5x8 Uhaul trailer.

I’m pretty sure the equipment I have ordered is compatible, here are the links for reference:

Hitch: CURT 11276 Class 1 Trailer Hitch, 1-1/4-Inch Receiver, Compatible with Select Toyota Prius , Black

Wiring: CURT 56147 Vehicle-Side Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, Fits Select Toyota Prius

my question is what’s the towing capacity on a Prius? I believe the trailers weight alone is about 900 pounds according to uhaul. Besides that, is there anything I should be aware of when using a Prius to tow?

Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Toyota says DO NOT TOW anything.
You rist your life and others by doing so.
The Prius is not designed to tow anything.

Read this in the owners manual.

i have over 150k miles traveled with a trailer behind one of my 3 prii. Ignore the concerns of others here to read the owners manual and the nay sayer’s comments. In europe the prius is rated to tow but the laws are different and all vehicles while towing have lower speed limits. That uhual trailer at 900 pounds is pushing the limits of what is reasonable and capable to tow with your Prius. My small camping trailer is designed to be towed behind a motorcycle and at 300 pounds is barely noticeable behind any of my prii. Have visited all 48 continental us states and 14 Canadian provinces while towing it with zero issues or problems. My gen3 has 200k miles on it with over 100k of those while towing. Some on this forum warned me that i would kill the cars transmission ,hurt myself or others and basically called me stupid for towing anything behind it. Well they were all wrong. The car consumes zero oil between changes and still has the original hybrid battery. Never had any major mechanical problems of any kind. It even has the original brake pads and rotors. Also use a small utility trailer for light towing without issues.
That being said, my recommendation is to NOT tow that 900 pound uhaul with your prius. The weight is just too much.

Just because you've been lucky and haven't hurt anyone, it doesn't mean it's right.

There are many people who speed, run stop signs and red lights, commit crimes, etc.,
    and "gotten away with it".

Between the EcoHitch or PriusOverlanding receiver, which will be the best option? Mostly looking for a cargo or bike rack or utility trailer for going to the dump buying farm supplies and for road trips. Not really looking to tow anything larger than my my lawnmower or golf cart. I know it won’t handle my 17’ cargo trailer; I ain’t stupid! But I do need an interim solution to take trash to the dump before I can get a new truck. I’m tired of taking it in the Trunk.

you know, there were shipping delays earlier in the year but I hear by the end of the month their fulfillment company will be online so orders ship the same day when the order is placed before 12noon.

in terms of quality and build, there is no question that PriusOverlanding.com is the best bang for the money. the build materials in Curt/EcoHitch and the alike are all similar in thickness and hitch placement of each other. They are not built like the PriusOverlanding.com hitch in any shape or form. Where PriusOverlanding.com thrives is you won't need a hitch riser, also a big rig can hit your car and your hitch will survive.

A side-by-side comparison is coming soon!

I did find another store in CA which said they have the PriusOverlanding hitch in stock. I saw their website had been not quite working right the past few days.

Despite the modern pronoun patterns, it still seems a bit odd for a company principal to refer to themselves in the third person, and use phrases such as "I hear" for their very own actions.

@Straussberg: Be aware that the above is not an independent third-party review. It is first-party marketing.

Yeah, backend software updates when they dont mix with certain code reeks havoc on websites and developers. all should be good now. which store?

so um...in the Corporate America side of things, where I am from when speaking in an email representing a company one would use the "we" pronoun. So, I am also being judged in an imperfect world for the use of a pronoun in a... in your eyes failed attempt at humor in playing coy? the level of judgment around these parts is quite high...

Writing "we" would have been significantly more honest than writing "they" and "I hear".

You did admit to something that seriously violated FTC requirements, and tried to justify it. And later wrote in the form of a review while failing to disclose your direct financial interest in the matter. Thus, some level of judgement was entirely appropriate.

I was going to point the OP of this thread back to the other thread I linked, in order to see that other customer's posted update about finally receiving a satisfactory resolution. Now, that seems no longer necessary.

clearly, you are far advanced more than I am on this topic you should be. :)

    hmm, actually. I didn't..
The 30 Day Rule requires that when a business advertises shipping its goods within a certain time frame, the business must have a reasonable basis for stating so. If you don't make a statement regarding shipping time, you must ship within 30 days--thus, the 30-Day Rule.

So now you throwing around inaccurate statements about violating FTC paints me in a bad picture, which I am sure you are aware of... thus... I wish you the best and will ask the universe to spare you from any karma heading your way for the misuse of your words online towards me.

Also, I never fail to disclose anything, your interpretation appears incorrect, that's one thing I've learned about most on the internet. The belief that their thinking is undisputable and 100% accurate without any other way is a little absurd to me... also, the "throwing under a bus" or "kicking a horse while it's down" around these parts is at an all-time high! It's as if thriving on negativity and bashing is all the rage these days and that in an imperfect world folks speak as if they are mistake-free... all good though, growing pains as I call them only make you better aside from the off-basis comments from vocal posters.

So versus any attempt at some sort of compassion for a person who speaks in the third person about the company they own trying to push aftermarket support for a vehicle hated by most... you all would rather bash and kick while down on posts and link to other posts versus anything in a constructive/helping sense... funniest part is, the loudest voices are often the weakest people...

I'm sure you are aware of your very own words:
    ...

    Is that a threat?
The previous replies in this new thread don't include disclosures. They depend on the reader going to outside websites and then connecting some dots. While the wary will usually spot it easily, numerous unwary will not. Normal journalism disclosures make such potential conflicts of interest far more abundantly clear.
... yes, you sure have been loud..

I tow around 4,000 lb in an enclosed 4x8 trailer. It works just fine. I would say that this is extreme and the heat soak is profound on a summer day. A 5x8 trailer with 900 lb is easy

Me and my friends oftentimes pull lightweight utility trailers with motorcycles but there are times when I have to pull much more. Here's an extreme example.

you know, the simple fact you asked if that was a threat lets me know you are not in the right frame of mind to have a discussion with. good day to you and be well.
