P (parking brake button) not illuminated at night?

It is during the day when I don't need the illumination as much.

Your dash illumination must be at least two bars - one bar or less all buttons will go dark.

If your other buttons are illuminated, you may have an issue the that button only - burn out bulb.

Just editorial: do you mean this button:

    upload_2022-4-18_13-48-55.png

That's for shifting the transaxle to "P" gear (likely short for "Park"), but not related to "Parking Brake".

The Parking Brake is on the floor - and yes, it's fairly dark down there - but I don't know a car with an illuminated Foot Park Brake Pedal.

Thanks but as I said it is illuminated in daytime and brightness control is maxed out.

For comment about parking brake being dark we are discussing the parking brake button! Not the pedal.

I'd go back to the dealer in the dark and show them - that's some strange behavior. It may have gotten cross wired somehow.

Try turning-on the headlights during the daytime, when it's illuminated - see if it goes out... It should actually work opposite, out during the daytime, on with the headlamps.

    Good Luck...

Let’s start over: Are you referring to the button on the center console that says “P”?

What those above have said ... there is no "parking brake button".

There is a parking brake pedal:
    upload_2022-4-19_10-32-10.png

and a separate 'transmission' Park button:

    upload_2022-4-19_10-33-34.png

So, for clarification, which one of these two separate items are you referring to?

alexprius22 did say that the button he was referring to WAS lit during the day, but not at night. That means something doesn’t seem right. Right now it seems we are all making assumptions as to what he is referring to. I, for one, would like to have clarification from him.

Rather than nitpick about a simple English mistake, I'll provide my observations for a 2020 Prius LE model.

On my car I believe I saw that the green LED in the middle of the button is lit when the car is in park. This is true day or night and only when the car is in park. The button is illuminated in blue when the headlamps are on regardless of whether the car is in park or not.

Hope this is a helpful reply.

Thanks for cutting through the bullshit. This forum can be downright pedantic at times.

To add another datapoint, my 2016 Prius Five Touring has the same behavior: the green indicator light is on when the car is in "Park", off when it's not; the white "P-in-a-box" button label lights up in blue when the vehicle headlights are turned on, and is unilluminated when the headlights are off. If the headlights are set to "Auto" mode, the blue illumination matches the actual status of the headlights-- off when they're off, on when they come on.

Not a regular Prius but my 2021 PP behaves the same way as @TucsonPrius described. Here is a pictorial version of his description.

So those are all GREAT answers IF that is what his question is referring to. However, there is another switch with a P on it, and another possibility beyond a switch with a P on it that both are possibilities in a 2022 XLE.
I have learned a few lessons in my life and one of them is “if you are not absolutely sure what the question is, ask for clarification”.

What is the other switch with a P on it? I looked for it in my PP, but I could not find it... Is it in a regular Prius but not in Prius Prime?

I don’t know, what I do know is that it is there in the 2022 PRIUS XLE. I try not to answer questions about other models unless I am fairly certain that I know the answer to the question.

I thought you have a 2022 Prius XLE? That's what is on your profile. I am not asking about my PP. I can't find another button with "P" on my PP. That's why I asked what the other "P" button is on the 2022 Prius XLE.

It’s there, you just have to open your mind to it, and perhaps look outside the box your thinking in at the moment ;)

At the risk of making the forum “be downright pedantic at times”, what’s your point?
From your (not so polite) response, it’s apparent you couldn’t find it.
I don’t know much (in reality, very little) about the Prius 4 Touring, but from the few pictures I was able to find, you probably wouldn’t be able to find it, since the system I am referring to may not be included on that model. But then it would be beyond this discussion then, wouldn’t it?
