150,000 coming up and I've got some questions

    Hi everyone just hit 147k last week and I've got a laundry list of things I wanna get done.
    The thing is, most of these I don't want to diy so I need a good repair shop within the California bay area, any suggestions?

    Disclaimer: I bought the car at 128k and very few repair records Beyond oil changes.

    What I want checked/fixed

    Egr circuit ( I still get 47mpg city and I have a lead foot, so maybe this can wait? Idk)
    Spark plugs
    Shocks (some of the rubber grommets are missing entirely)
    Transaxle fluid change
    Fuel filter
    Oil change (may as well, I change every 3k)
    Maybe install oil catch can? (This is a weird one I was burning maybe a quart every 3k when I bought the car but now it doesn't anymore after I used the techron fuel additive. Wasn't expecting it to actually work lol)

    I think that's all for 150k let me know if I missed anything super important

    I'm interested in 53,000 miles from now how long will that take you to do right you'll be out of the car probably you should make it to that pretty uneventful stuff even if you didn't do what you have on the list you'll still probably make what I'm saying.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    I do get a weird croaking/creaking sound when letting off the brake. But only when I'm parked in my driveway and am reversing out. It's pretty loud

    Yeah being obtuse; what I was trying to get across, is at 147k, there's no point in waiting, get the EGR cleaning started ASAP, it's better done by 100k, so overdue.

    And yeah, Toyota's totally passive-aggressive on this, says everything's fine, till you've got cold-start shakes and/or (restricted EGR flow) code.

    I'm watching I've got a clean one right now installed and I'm going to keep an eye on it real good fashion because it's easy to disassemble and look at on the one end very quickly so no issues going to see how fast this thing clogs up I have another one or two going out to the machine shop to be tanked and clean properly

    oh ok yeah, I think it will easily hit 200k if I do nothing (not doing that), I'm tempted to just take the egr pipe off to see how bad it is. maybe the previous owner did the job but it wasn't in writing.

    searching around egr job at a shop would cost 1000$ alone, not including the other things I want done. i just don't have the cash right now. i probably will by the time 150k comes around.

    I've been studying some vids on diying the egr job but I'm going to have to be quoted like $2k for me to consider that.

    Yeah somehow, you quoted @Grit, but it's my text, lol. Just technical, not relevant to discussion though..

    Not that difficult to DIY, or if you can enlist a shade tree mechanic. No parts need replacement; it just takes patient cleaning. See first link in my signature.

    I finally got an update for you guys. I did some of the egr job but stopped short of the actual egr solenoid and cooler. I just don't have hands small enough haha. In the future I'll just buy a new cooler and solenoid and have a mechanic put it in.

    However I have good news! I think it's Been done before I bought the car. There was VERY little build up on the intake and egr pipe compared to what I've seen on tutorial videos At most maybe 1.5mm and only in select areas.

    Got everything put back together minus the wipers bc Im still waiting on the spark plugs.

    First time I started it up after reassembly there were some real scary noises and I quickly turned the car off my dad who was a mechanic in the 70s says it sounded like knocking, and was struggling to keep running.

    Turns out In my excitement to get the car back together my dumbass forgot to reconnect the tube going from the intake manifold to the pcv valve.

    Runs fine now(hope it didn't cause permanent damage)☹️[​IMG]
