Studdering misfire on startup after cleaning Battery cooling fan air filter

Any idea where to find that? I guess I'll just look up "toyota warranty book price hourly labor"

 

Got head gasket replaced, quick guys.

Answer about the EGR cleaning:

The Manteca Gasket Masters does the EGR cleaning as a package deal with removing the existing EGR Cooler and replacing it with anther one they have from other cars, and cleaning the EGR. They let the EGR cooler sit for a while in a bucket of who knows liquid.

Cost for their EGR Cooler service/EGR cleaning: $385 - $425 depending.

Mine looks basically brand new now, EGR is cleaned. Gasket replaced.

Again they said EGR cleaning they don't do by its self as a service, you'd need to do the EGR cooler service that includes cleaning out the EGR.

They include a list of stuff they've done as part of the head gasket replacement:

Head gasket
Head bolts
Oil
Coolant
Spark plugs
EGR cooler/Clean EGR (not shown on paperwork)

Runs great I'm happy, unsure who gave me the name of that shop I'm driving but I truly very much thank them for steering me to them. Saved me some $3,000. Toyota service center quoted me $5,100 for that head gasket job.

Gasket masters also said there was fouling in all 4 cylinders, they replaced with iridium tipped, $9 a piece from Auto Zone....

Should I be swapping those out

 

Getting about 40 mpg at 74 now in the mountains that's pretty good

Going to add one more thing, Gasket Masters, I was pretty clear that they were going to diagnose what was going on and tell me what was going on before doing the head gasket, they called me up on Saturday and said they did the head gasket.

They didn't inform me of what they found or get my permission. They just did it.

They said the spark plugs were fouled.

I always had lots of carbon covering the back from the exhaust, I'm going to wash the entire car and see if it still comes back, after they cleaned the EGR and egr cooler and put in a new head gasket.

What would cause so much soot coming out of the engine?

 

Called them up today, the spark plugs they use are Iridium Autolite plugs because they last a lot longer than the Denso and NGK's, which cools my jets a bit. They're only $9 per plug.

They also said the soot is from burning oil common in these cars. Said to place only 1/3 bottle of Seafoam in the oil once every oil change to get the deposits off the rings and such, that after about 3 oil changes you'll see a difference, maybe even doing another 1/3 into the vaccume line / heat soak treatment.

B12? Never used it, says to pop it in for just 15 minutes before oil change

What do you think about placing maybe 3/4 cup of Seafoam in the oil after every oil change, that's what the guy at gasket masters told me. 3/4 cup is just about 1/3 of the can. The regular posts and instructions say to place oz per quart measurement and run it for 100-300 miles, but what about placing a small amount for the full duration

 

1/3 of the 16 oz Seafoam can is 5.33 oz, or 2/3 cup

Seafoam instructions online recommend 1 oz per quart, or maximum 1.5 oz per quart. This Prius V has 4.4 quarts, so that'd be between 4.4 oz and 6.6 oz, but I have 5.33 oz in there now (2/3 cup), 1/3 of the 16 oz bottle like Gasket Masters suggested, going to see how it goes, already seeing improvement the first 50 miles. Isn't as harsh starting or loud/rough idling so.

Next will be B12 Chemtool in gas tank at almost empty then fillup, 1 oz per gallon per instructions, 11.9 gallons, 11.9 oz, which is 1.488 cups, 1.5 cups for kicks.

You know on my Subaru H6 3.0 I use Justice Brothers oil with Metal Conditioner, and AT-205. The Subaru was leaking pretty bad before hand, had less than half a stick oil remaining just at the half way mark. After AT-205 in the oil and JB, zero oil loss. It's a rubber conditioner that AT-205. I actually also spray it on all rubber stuff under the Prius, everything's basically brand new looking. Just a couple squirts. Tried it on my tires one time, they looked brand new. Insane.

Justice Brothers with metal conditioner, put that in starting I think around 250k, it's at 311k now. Also put in some Lucas Oil transmission stuff in my transmission, still works. Before all of this I was putting in Marvel Mystery Oil.. did something.

Only problem with the JB stuff is that I have 0W-20 oil, won't be able to put it in my prius, but, JB told me use E0S-66P Justice Brothers Oil Suppliment for the Prius. Maybe in the future if I can find it on eBay.
