    The land of woke agenda - where you get to steal for free - if it's under $1,000. Seems all of their supercharger cables were stolen at a new station a few months back.

    So now that the word is out, maybe all of the DC/SAE branded quick Chargers will be hit as well. Plug in America - you're next!

    Sadly, I feared and called this well over a decade ago. This and charge stations; especially those in less optimal locations, becoming predatory zones for the sitting ducks charging there.

    Starting a non-political thread with a political statement.:(
    Won't address fast DC charger, but Level 2 public chargers could require the car to supply the cable. Without cables dangling about, there isn't the temptation for thieves. It also opens up other options for charger locations.

    I believe Euro's are doing this already. It's a workaround but it will place more responsibility on drivers thus lowering the overall user experience. Growing pains.

    They are. While slightly more burden on the driver, it allows public chargers in locations where an attached cord could be a public trip hazard when not in use; EVSE's on lamp posts, parking meters or built right into the street curb.

    This is what I've been saying/calling for. Also, engine heater plugs infrastructure is in place too.

    What about automatic wind up cords? Works very well on a vacuum cleaner.

    They work well until they don't. Between the heavier cable gauge and being outside, I would think the 'until they don't' will be more frequent. For some EVSE types, the added bulk could also be an issue.

    Some gas pumps have retractable ropes that might work. Though I wonder how well with the longer charging cables.

    Looks more like anti-EV vandalism than "woke theft" to get freebies.

    Or possibly just ordinary non-political copper theft.

    ChargePoint has had these retractable ropes on one or more versions of their L2 chargers for at least ~8 years. The vast majority of them that I see are like this.

    As for providing your own cord...The first ChargePoint chargers I used in 2012 had one L2 cable and a second L1 box. When you tapped your card both unlocked. The box unlocked and allowed you to flip up the cover and plug in your own 110v cord. The bottom of the box had a notch so your cord could get out and you could fully close the box cover and your cord would be locked in place.

    This same idea could be made to work for any cord and be placed on light poles, etc.
    They probably stopped making these due to lack of demand

    The chargers in town(don't know who), and Volta ones here don't appear to have a cord keeper.

    That's providing a 15 amp outlet so somebody can use their portable EVSE. In Europe, the car provides a cord to use a Level 2 public EVSE, which can be up to 22kW.

    Reduces the vandalism, theft, and tripping hazard risks since there is only a cord there when a charging car is present. Also opens up other EVSE options, that could make lower speed charging more accessible for those without home charging access.
