I have had a message on my 2022 Prius Prime screen telling me it is time for maintenance. Toyota dealership says they will charge me $157 for inspecting the fluid levels (no mention of tire rotation). I have 6700 kms on my vehicle, and they say oil change isn't due until 16000 km. (10000 miles about). I think this is just the dealership trying to get more money out of me. They say they will inspect my brakes. At only 4000 miles, I think I can risk it. What do you think?

The service interval for the Prime is 6 months OR 8,000km whichever comes first.

Yes, the oil change part of the service isn't due until 12 months or 16,000km (so it's once a year).

Here's Service #1 from toyota.ca. Brake Service is not required until 48,000km (Brake fluid replacement). Sure they can "inspect your brakes" as it's part of Service #1. Don't pay anything extra.

As for personalization, I would go through the owner's manual (I think it's Chapter 8?) and see what you want customized as there are some things that require a dealer to change and this is the only time they'll do it for free. If you want it changed in the future, you'll have to pay for their labour rate.

The maintenance reminder is a simple miles counter. If you decide not to take it to the dealer, you will still want to reset the counter so it will remind you after the next interval when the oil change is due. You can do this with the steering wheel buttons in the Settings menu.

I go to the tire place where I bought my tires. They do free tire rotation, brake inspection, etc. I even have them do oil and filter changes. You definitely want the tires rotated at the 5000 mile interval for long tire life.
