    Looks like the thief used an impact to unscrew the manifold attachment bolts.

    They owners could have thwarted the thief, if they used my Really cheap catalytic converter security... meyhod/

    Rather than reporting just bad news, I continue to try to help others to find inexpensive solutions for Gen 3 cat replacement by starting this thread.

    I am looking for a solution that allows the owner to do most all of the work and allow the owner to drive the car to a muffler shop only to get it welded thereby saving the owner a lot of money.

    The prescribed Toyota service manual requires taking down the entire assembly, which is not necessary and likely to cost $300 plus.

    No, mine was stolen half year ago..
    p.s. When you see theft in progress don't approach them. Cat thieves from my pictures weren't just casual enthusiast., they were armed and resisting arrest.

    Thefts have gone up again in nearby cities and last week I heard a car dealer in Cerritos, CA lost 2-3 Cats and was hit 3-4 times since last year in spite of having security on site.

    I finally decided to install the Cat shields for my Prius and while I was waiting for my Prius to be fitted, there was a female customer who came directly from the Toyota dealer with her Prius V. She said she waited 3 months to get her catalytic converter replaced.

    I opted for a thicker aluminum cat shield just for a little protection. Here’s a pic of my 2012 Prius Plug-in with OC Hybrid’s own shield.
