Low-beam headlight bulb suggestions?

I've always liked the Silvania Ultra Halogens (I think they are in an orange container) And you want to always change bulbs in pairs...if the right side goes out, change both right/left side. (They are the same age so won't be long, anyway, before the other goes out.) And you want the lights to shine the same, older bulbs get dimmer as they age.

 

Aux Beam S1 series hi n lo I think h8 and h11 are on gen3. Cut off for the low beam is perfect as it's built into the housing and the high beam is wide open on the generations 3 with one projector The s ones on high beam will blind people and the low beam is exceptionally bright but the cut off is razor sharp You can see it right across the headrest of the back seats of the car in front of you.

 

Some early Gen 3s came with a problem of overvolting the halogen headlights, which made their lifetimes extra short.

If your car is the 2014 in your profile, probably that's already fixed.

For someone with an earlier Gen 3, it can be good to stick with the 'standard' halogens (the ones usually hanging on pegs down by your ankles, where the shops hope you won't see them), instead of the extra-bright ones that are usually hanging at eye level in the flashy packaging. The extra-bright ones are built with a trade of longevity for brightness to begin with, and then if somebody puts them in one of the older Gen 3s where even the standard bulbs burn out fairly soon, the extra-bright ones will drop like flies.

Again, I think the cars with that issue were early Gen 3, 2010 or 2011 and not all of those, so it shouldn't be an issue in a 2014.

 

Be sure the retrofit bulb is designed for H11 sockets. Otherwise it won't fit and the connector will be different.

Just last week I went from an Auxbeam Led low beam priced around $35 a pair to the Lasfit H11 Led for $55 a pair. While both were brighter than the standard halogens, the Lasfit was better and has a wider beam allowing you to see the side of the road much better.

It is important that the plastic headlight assembly has a clear lens. If it is fogged use one of the diy kits or have it done by someone.

Finally, some cheap Led bulbs will not work in halogen projector headlight assemblies without blinding oncoming traffic.

No matter what brand, a retrofit won't be as good as a factory led headlight assembly.

They probably need cleaning if the yellow is there. This is my 11 year old headlight that has been cleaned three times over the years.



This is the kit I like. No power tools needed but it requires some elbow grease and careful following of the instructions.

It has a final uv coat as well.

 

Watch this video. Note you use surface activator twice per headlight. I would wait on the final uv coat until both headlights are ready. As in the video, the plastic still looks hazy until the uv coat. I would write down and follow the steps from the video. The supplied instructions are not as clear.

It is probably possible to do two cars with one kit. As an alternative, Walmart Automotive does it for a reasonable price.

 

I would go with the 30000LM set from Hikari, you can get a set for your High Beams also.
They are cheap and good,you can find videos of them on YouTube if you want to see the difference.
