Need PCM Plug

I have an extra car sitting here I don't know what the PCM abbreviation is I have a whole '05 sitting out here in mint condition that will never be on the road again well there's parts missing off it now but it was in great shape before I started taking the parts off of I don't know what an EV switch is for a generation too so good luck with that but I probably have the plug that you want and droves I am in Central North Carolina not far from Virginia depending upon where you are I'm in 27243

 

is there a salvage yard in the area?

 

What is the PCM plug? I don't know it by that name

Find a wrecking yard - you need the plug from the same position on the PCM (just get all 4). Also can look at ebay for a complete engine harness.

If you broke your connector, you'll want to practice removing the terminal locks and unpinning terminals before attempting this "for real".

Unless your damaged connector won't go in at all, may want to scan all systems on the car and diagnose the park fault before messing with the harness.

Transmission P lock can be traced in the wiring diagram. It starts at a fuse under the hood, called p con. I'm not sure if you had this error prior but it's a somewhat common one. The fuse also supplies constant power to the gateway. If this fuse is blown, or wire open/short vehicle will likely not start depending on where the issue is.

P con goes from the under hood fuse box to a passenger side junction down by the footwell. It continues on from there. I'd start checking p con for power beginning at the connector at the top of under hood fuse box after confirming fuse is good and it has power.

 

There should be plenty of those around I got three or four here any of the battery rebuilders in any town will have this stuff cases and what not stacked up behind the shop ready to go to the dump The guy I went to see up in Virginia the hybrid doctor his little hole in the wall shop Man out near the side yard and the dumpster was so stacked full of metal cases I mean thousands of them It was like men take whatever you want they're more of a problem than a good thing when you get like that. So you should be able to find plenty of ECUs PCMs whatever the heck they are more power control module there you go yeah that's the one that's back in the battery case any battery rebuilder should have possibly hundreds of them laying around $5 whatever they're going to go in the trash.

 

I'm not sure that is correct. The Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU is variously referred to as the HV Control ECU and also HV ECU in the repair manual.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is a separate ECU although it does talk to the HV Control ECU.

 

I'm not sure Toyota's ever called anything in the car the "powertrain control module". I might have missed it.

The one that conducts the orchestra, they've called different names. In Gen 1 it was the "HV ECU". In Gen 2, it was the "HV control ECU". In Gen 3 it became the "power management control ECU". I'm not sure what its later names are.

There has been a "transmission control ECU" in Gen 2 and Gen 3 at least, and that's a highfalutin' name for the thing that moves one metal pawl in the transaxle in and out of Park.

I will say, it helps a lot when posting questions to at least look up and learn the Toyota names for the things, as opposed to what they might have been called someplace, because that helps us all be on the same page.

The wiring diagrams (also found through that link) do show the part numbers of the different connector housings, and the way the terminals are locked in and released.

 

It looks like powertrain control module is an SAE term and is used throughout the repair manual in SAE defined codes. Toyota does not give its equivalent name.

There is, though, a Power Source Control Module and it is this one that talks to the HV Control Module.

Also littered copiously through manual are references to ECM/PCM and ECM (PCM), so I guess SAE's PCM is Toyota's ECM.
