Does anyone know what might be causing a loud noise when I turn the wheel? It happens when I'm parked and moving, too. I've already ruled out wheel bearings and power steering issues.

A stethescope or broom handle with one end held to your ear can help you locate the source of the noise. Have someone sit in the driver'ss seat and turn the wheel while you search for the location the noise is coming from.

When you turn how many strokes of turn do you have on the wheel until it clunks or half turns they're easier to measure many of you almost at the limit of travel and may not be your steering wheel but it could certainly be inner outer tie rod ends they can clunk things like that so it's further down from the power steering unit It's actually down right behind your engine and transmission sitting kind of low and it runs across the front end from wheeled to wheel The rack assembly I would hope it's not clunking very loud but it could very well be if things are loose enough

    Can you clarify?

Does the act of turning the wheel cause the sound, meaning if you just hold the wheel steady in a turn there's no noise?

Likely a worn intermediate shaft, have you had the recall already?

Yes, the noise only occurs when the wheel is turned. It's a sustained, high pitched whining.

It's not a clunking noise at all, it's more like a long, drawn out, high pitched screeching sound that occurs whenever I turn the wheel.

UPDATE: I fixed the issue. It had a bent dust cover making contact with the brake rotor. Thank you all for the replies!

    ****UPDATE****

Congrats... Those annoying dust covers are always stirring things up... Surprised no one has every tried to replace them with higher quality material that doesn't come loose? I'd love a DIY solution that allowed me to replace all my dust covers next time I work on that part of my car.
