Replaced Driver Side Mirror; Blind Spot Monitoring Malfunction

    Many moons ago, my driver's side mirror got clipped. The mirror itself was undamaged and still fully functional; it was just the lower part with the silver trim that was ripped off. As a result, I put off repairing it for several months.

    I finally replaced it the other day. Made sure to verify the mirror supports blind spot monitoring (has the little icon) and also heating (possibly irrelevant here).

    Today, the first day driving since replacement, the Blind Spot Malfunction warning lit up. Can the mirror be causing the alarms?

    There is absolutely no damage to any sensors.
    I drove the car to/from work on Friday with no alarms. Replaced the mirror on Sunday. Drove on Tuesday with alarms. It's literally the only thing that's changed.

    I'm wondering if I put the old one back on will the malfunction go away?

    I think that techstream (or another high end scan tool with compatible calibration functions) is needed to tell the cars controlling ECU that there is a new mirror in place and run the calibration routines for the mirror.
    It's possible that after reinstalling the old mirror, that the error will go away.
    A 2 day subscription to the Techstream documentation will answer your questions more completely, with the instructions for the Toyota Officially recommended process to replace the mirror.

    Betting the radar system is just not happy at temp losing one of its appendages ;)

    Needs to be calibrated again.

    Crazy how swapping the mirror requires the entire system to be recalibrated.
    I mean, if the mirror simply displays the icon, I consider that the same as a PC monitor. I could not imagine having to run full PC diagnostics when I plug in a new monitor.
    Don’t get me wrong, I would understand the warning message if the mirror electronics were unreachable and the car wants you to know why you’re not seeing the icon. As-is, I have no way of testing the mirror functionality - I suppose - without taking my car somewhere to do the calibration.

    So much for my hopes of a simple and relatively inexpensive DIY repair.
