Argh, I forgot that. I change the Prius oil at end of May and iQ oil mid Sept, so last one I saw that is fresh in my mind is the vertical one on the iQ….

I do not have to remove the aluminum skid plate at all to do oil changes.

There is an access panel to the oil filter cut out but the cut was not 100% and oil spills out onto the skid plate.

This aluminum filter housing will allow me to just drain it right into my oil pan when doing oil changes.

Bought one of these in preparation to change the oil in a ‘18 Honda Clarity. The drain plug is horizontal shooting oil out horizontally at first. Since Honda says rev engine until cooling fan comes on that oil is shooting out hot and it’s somewhat difficult to catch without spilling every time. I don’t know if you can slide the red drain in between the panel and filter but hopefully there’s enough space. At best because the filter is horizontal in the Prius you drain the top half, if that metal one fits at all…

EDIT- Maybe you’ll need to trim the red piece to get it to fit in. (At least it is plastic and not metal like the panel is).

Just replaced the old plastic housing with the aluminum version.

Next oil change will test how less of a mess it will be with this setup.

What's the dimensions of that square pocket, suitable for 3/8" or 1/2" drive ratchet?

3/8 inch, but it would only loosen the small threaded cap on top, not the whole housing.

Toyota part # 15620-40030, and you need a separate threaded plug, which is 15643-31050

@AzusaPrius That metal clip is there to prevent the plastic cap from shooting out in the event of catastrophic thread failure. Pretty sure it's safe to remove now that you have the metal version..

Me, I'm running a Dorman plastic cap ever since I accidentally damaged the thread of the OEM trying to reinstall during an oil change...
