I know some people have tinted their windshields here and I'm wondering if it's possible to get a picture of how they cut around the cameras on their tint.

I had mine done recently and it's been a debacle but once the tints went on, I had a sensor malfunction for the lane assist/lane keep. Adaptive cruises control still brakes and accelerates and the camera still read road signs and displays them on the dashboard. I'm trying to understand if somehow something got damaged during the install or the film is causing an issue. I've seen a handful of threads of people getting their windshields tinted and have seen no reports of issues.

I have a code B1512(87) and B15DB(87) on an OBD reader. Nothing pops up in the car alerts other than the dash display and nothing in the app. I've tried clearing the codes to no avail.

They did cut around my cameras, the humidity camera (small left one) has a tab going in front of the lens and it's a really clear but ceramic tint (80%)

With the amount you're likely paying to have a brand new car get windshield tint, that's on the people you paid to put it on, no one else. They need to either figure it out or give you your money back.

If it was an older Prius we'd probably have an abundance of advice for you, but not with a brand new Prius, because people who buy brand new, don't know how or are unwilling to work on their car, which is why they spend so much money on brand new.

That has to be one of the most unhelpful posts I've seen.

We can discuss the financial of purchasing a brand new car post covid and why I spent so much on a brand new car when a used one would have cost me even more at the time, that doesn't help or is relevant.

It's a new car, I don't expect that many people to have experience with it but I know for a fact there's a bunch of users who have done it and I've tried reaching out to them and am posting here to reach out to even more that may not have posted about it and are willing to help. That's the whole point of a forum and how you accrue said advice.

The reason older Prius have an abundance of advice and knowledge is because people attempts to do things, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've literally posted threads on how to get some 'features' like the lightbar of higher trim models on a budget. If it wasn't for people like that, you wouldn't have that knowledge in the future.

The installers told me they'd cover the cost to fix the sensors if needed but I still want to do my research to make sure it's not a silly mistake that can be fixed without having to do a trip to the dealer and their terrible experience.

Like I said, Gen5 hasn't been around long enough for PriusChat participants to know about location of sensors that are being blocked. But it's as simple as the window tint biz researching the sensor locations.

And window tinting in general may be common, but windshield tinting is very rare. I've followed all the Gen5 posts on here since this forum was first created and its never come up.

Lastly, there's no such thing as a brand new car being more affordable than a used one. And yes, granted that their was some strange things happending with used cars in 2022 after Covid, but that's just changing the facts to support your decision to buy brand new.

Right, so where do the window tint biz research the sensor locations? They'll usually start in forums because that's the obvious answer. They are members that contribute to this very 5th gen sub with TSB, parts diagrams and other information. A few members come to mind, you don't.

Now since you follow so closely the threads... those two I can find by searching. The first picture isn't clear enough for me to see how close they cut but it's has clearly come up. I've contacted some of the users but I'm sure there's more that haven't posted. And yes, the second is about windows but many reported tinting their windshield.

As for new car being more affordable, you seem to make a lot of simply poor assumptions. I'm sure you know exactly which market I was located it in or that a 2022 Prime with 50k km was a few thousands more than the brand new 2023 I bought. Hell, I could buy a 5 year old Yaris for 18k with 80k km, too, but running up the various scenarios of maintenance, or lack thereof, potential issues, fuel considerations or even that insurance rates were within $100 of each other, I am sure you know better when you intend to purchase a car to drive into the ground.

Now not only are you useless but you are wasting the purpose of this thread. If you have nothing of use to say, go "contribute" your knowledge elsewhere.

Your links don't answer your question... If anything they indicate that nothing is being obstructed by your window tint and error codes are due to damage to your radar sensors, which aren't on the windshield. Take it in under warranty and see what the Toyota Stealearship says. I'm willing to bet it's not because of your windshield tint.

As for the Windshield tint place, they consult Toyota documentation not online forums. Clearly, you've elaborated enough on why these forums are worthless.

As for telling me I'm worthless, why are you so defensive about spending more than an affordable EV costs for a hybrid car? Seems like you have alot more to say about how you spend your money than I'm interested in reading about.

You're a waste of time because the thread is about requesting picture of windshields tints. You have not provided that.
Matter of fact, you have provided nothing of substance to this thread other than making poor assumptions or saying that the car is too new and you've never even seen a thread about windshield tints. When shown that, in fact, there has been. Not everyone will post their issue.

The forums aren't worthless, they're a great source of information - posts like yours are worthless.

The dealers in my area suck balls, will probably keep the car for a week with no loaner, are still down with the cloud hack and the fact they keep coming back when trying to clear them immediately, actually do indicate something may be obstructing them the same way as when snow blocks the bumper ones.

I have ceramic films on all the windows on my Prius ... but I am not sure how it can affect any sensors when the film is applied in the interior part of the glass. You never put ceramic film on the outside part of the windscreen ...
