Having issues with P2195

That’s interesting theory…Do you think that fuel pump strainer/filter can be cleaned up a bit… instead of fuel pump replacement?

I don't think by the looks of the strainer it can be serviced. Maybe a parts cleaner? It's the "fabric" that gets stained and clogged up like an air filter. The fabric is not serviceable.

 

Black smoke, low MPG, loss of engine power are all indications that the car has a fault that results in too much fuel injected.

Add in your P2195 code and that points to a (very likely) bad upstream Air Fuel ratio sensor. I have seen similar faults enough times over the decades.

I would recommend:

1) If you want to learn about how the fuel control system works, then get a capable scantool to monitor ECM engine data and diagnose the problem.

2) If you just want to do something that will probably fix the problem and doesn't require the brainwork and legwork of diagnostics, then replace the A-F sensor with a genuine Toyota or Denso part and see what happens.

I have observed interesting ST and LT fuel trims suddenly change around 65mph. Car drives daily with ST around 0 and LT around -12. Once I take the car up to a constant 65mph on flat grade…within the next mile or 2 the trims work their way to approx… ST 20, LT -25 basically a radical change in just a 1 mile of travel. I have found that if I immediately back off the throttle, drop down 55mph… I can bring the trims back to ST 0, LT -12, -15
If I don’t back off soon… in next mile or so… car will set p2195, and sometimes p1151, then blow black smoke and sometimes stall, drive on hv battery only…quickly requiring a visit to break down lane……ugh!!!
I have a new denso upstream sensor arriving soon and will post update after install and testing.
