2010 Prius. Bought used with only 1 key fob. Want to add a spare key fob. In the past was able to buy a key fob off eBay for a 2008 Prius and program it by doing the chicken dance (process of pushing various buttons and opening and closing door in a specific sequence). Can 2010 Prius key fobs be programmed this way as well, or do 2010 require a visit to the dealer?
Making a new key for a 2010 requires a simple scanner with the key program function (Techstream or similar). No chicken dance. You can probably look up local locksmiths, they may do it for less than a dealership.
No easy way, you need Toyota Techstream laptop or equivalent. Dealer or some locksmiths. X horse key tool or a bundle of 88 dollar software from same company this is locksmith supply company . They claim this is easy process for no slot cars and the sell remotes for all the 2010 and up . They can overwrite transponder chips or program new etc . They have some text on site how works . Locksmiths use code grabbing tech so do these tools I've seen a ssetup that gets around all keys lost guaranteed. It's 500 bucks but reusable. It's a physical system called key tool and obd adapter. 339 and 199 for the two pieces . Local guy uses . Saw it yesterday. I was telling the guy at woods lock shop about it . He got it out of truck and gave me the run down . He was quite surprised I knew all about the company and their cabeling and such . Cool rig .
