My 2011 Prius was recently in a small rear end collision and I ended up getting a tailgate from another Prius from the junkyard, the Prius I took the tailgate from has the factory backup camera on it, I was wondering if my car has the wiring for the backup camera already behind the dash if I will need to do some modifications? I was planning on installing an aftermarket android radio and a backup camera would be nice especially since it's already installed in the tailgate so I wouldn't need to run wiring all the way from front to rear.
Do you're car have it ? Apparently not as you talk . I don't think Toyoda do that anymore they got smart some systems now are wireless cams too . Not from factory .
The only way to find out is to remove some of the rear panels and find a connector, if any, that mates up to the connector going to the backup camera. Another way is to go to the dealer and find out if the camera requires an add on wiring harness to the camera, and if the screen unit on your particular has a connector for a backup camera. It's up to n you to find out.
You can look in the Electrical Wiring Diagram. Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat Wires that are only present in certain variants of the wiring harness will be shown with a small asterisk and number in parentheses, like (*7) for example. Somewhere on the page there will be a legend saying something like "(*7) w/ Rear View Monitor". When that's the case, it usually doesn't mean that there's some extra wire harness you can buy and lay in that only adds the extra wires. It means that the whole wire harness comes in variants with and without those wires. Or, several wire harnesses may all come in such variants (say, one in the hatch to the roof, one down the pillar and along the floor, and one behind the dash). Of course, if you have the variants without the camera wires, it may be a lot easier to just get a roll of suitable shielded cable and some connectors and lay that in alongside. Replacing whole wire harnesses with their with-camera variants would be very tedious.
I'm talking about if I have the connectors behind the dash going to the radio, I do have the camera connector in the tail gate going to the module in the headliner. Is there any free wiring diagram resource? I looked at that post but it goes to Toyota Europe that requires a special login?
I also saw they have reverse camera wiring harness adapters for the 2012-2013 Prius but it doesn't cover the 2011 Prius for some reason, any idea why?
If you spend a little more time in that post, around where it has headings like Where To Find It Free Databases ... ... ... Toyota Subscription Databases ... ... ... ... Third-Party Subscription Databases ... ... ... Printed Books ... CD-ROM/DVD-ROM ... ... Unofficial Sources ... you may find a suggestion that works for you. Among the Toyota subscription databases, the North American one probably covers your car more precisely than the European one, if your profile is right that you're in NC. It's true the European one has cheaper subscription options, if it's available from here.
He rt up street from me . But I've no gen3 literature at all . Look behind you're radio for the connector on my gen2 easy to see .
