I think I might wait before investing in a new battery pack. We seem to be in the nascent stages of what might be a quantum leap in battery technology. Or not, but in any case, it could be a major mistake to buy in at this stage.

It's either old skool tech, run at half it's operating capacity to give the maximum headroom to allow minimum cell management using a chemistry that can handle being over capacity charged short term with out failing completely ...

    or

High tech advanced battery design that requires continuous cell level monitoring and balancing, because it doesn't have the ability to handle over capacity charging of any cell. This would involve a feed back loop that could control current in both directions, sensing any cell that is under performing and using that as the basis of the whole pack performance.

The way that last problem is dealt with in more modern battery design, is multiple cells in parallel to build the base capacity, then these groups in series to build voltage. This way, the BMS only has to monitor a single parallel group, any under performing cell is balanced out by the other cells in parallel .... I.E. a single cell in a 4 cells in parallel group drops to 50% capacity, the effect on the over all battery is only a 12.5% loss in capacity, not the 100% loss if it had been a single cell design.
A good active cell balancing system could minimise the loss in capacity even further, by splitting the capacity of the remaining series groups and supplying that back to the weak cell group when ever the voltage differential became apparent.
