Why is so hard to get that Gen 4 and Gen 5 have active grill shutters?

I have been trying to avoid dealing the with actual battery clamp in fear of accidentally breaking the connection to the car. But in actually looking more closely at the situation, the battery clamps (both of them) have an easily accessible studs on their tops. This stud is thicker than the hole in the Moco cable, but I have ordered a cable with larger sized lugs, so it should be easy.

I understand about the ac plug, I will look for a cover for the plug, just to ease my mind.

Thank you, again. I understand in the end, this has not been worth all of the attention I have put to it. But what else would we we all do, read about tire sizes and storage of spare tires?

Lead-acid batteries release hydrogen gas when they operate. So, when you put the battery inside of the passenger compartment, which is what Toyota does with Prius batteries, you have to vent the gas out of the passenger compartment. So the venting stuff on the battery makes it into a special battery, hence the rather expensive cost.

I replaced my 12V battery once in my 2005 Prius.I bought it in 2007 and sold it in May, 2025. That’s pretty good battery life. But I would want to check my electrical connections if my battery was dying frequently. Make sure it’s charging, make sure it’s not continually discharging.

My Gen 3 had a fairly constant drain of 50 mA, but I learned that if I drove it at least once a week, it wouldn't be dead. I replaced it after about 5 years, because it appeared not to be holding a charge. I was informed it was a special AGM type, and it cost me over $400, despite it being not much larger than a motorcycle battery. I started using a battery maintainer after that, but I found the alligator clips to be unreliable, unless checked and reseated regularly.

No, not really. These days most lead–acid batteries are center-vented. Here is an AGM battery I installed on my Gen 4 Prius Prime. It works both on Gen 4 and Gen 5 Priuses. Since it is AGM, it is much better than the OEM flooded cell. It is currently only $130.39 and you get another $10 back if you take your core to AutoZone or such.

It looks like they are only on the lower grille. You should be able to pass the cord through the upper grille. I don’t see the need for a permanent quick-connect plug for a car that is practically never driven though. It is only a good opportunity for a bad boy to yank it out and break your grille.
