    Hey everyone,

I accidentally backed my 2013 Prius Plug-In into a fence and had some minor damage. The rear undercarriage is hanging down a bit (pic attached). Is there a way to repair this or do I need to replace?

Bigger issue is now the car won't start. The fob wouldn't unlock the car (I replaced the fob battery but that didn't work) so I had to manually use the key. Start button went orange and interior lights were really dim as well so thought the 12v battery may be dead or dying. Today was going to give it a jump but now the lights are completely dead. Would such a hit really mess with the 12v or hybrid battery?

Since I can't open the trunk I went via the rear seat to check on the 12v battery connections and all seemed okay. Prius2.jpg Prius1.jpg

    Thanks so much.

Why can't you open the trunk? The damage in the photos wouldn't prevent the trunk from opening?

As for repairs, you simply replace the clips that busted, very easy. Of course because no one is going to see the underside of the car you can also skip spending money on clips and grab some screws and a screwdriver gun and screw new fasteners through the plastic to hold it all together and call it done in less than 5 minutes.

Does the trunk not only open if there's power? That's what I read anyway and aligns with what's happened - can't open the trunk at all or unlock/lock the doors remotely. No interior lights are turning on at all either.

Good to know that it's a relatively simple fix for the clips. Thanks! Now to get the car back on...

Oh, apologies... I was multi-tasking and read your post too quickly. Skimming the words too fast again! :-(

yes, you need 12 volts for the trunk. you can jump the car from the jump point in the fuse box under the hood, and open the hatch. take the battery to an auto parts store for a free load test. if it is okay, check the jump point for voltage. maybe a loose connection or the fuse blew. also check the 12v negative to ground connection at the body.
