When I use the remote, the front passenger side door lock and rear drivers side door lock do not engage. Usually the passenger side will still unlock when i use the remote but not lock. The driver's rear will usually not unlock or lock when I use the remote. Any easy fixes or is it best to live with the problem?
I have the opposite problem: front driver, rear passenger. The front is not a problem, since it opens with the key, and I always manually lock it when parking. The rear passenger lock is intermittent, but inconvenient. Last time I looked, replacement parts were available, but the work involves removing interior door panels. Could be a DIY fix, but for now I'm living with it.
Yeah, I've owned more than 30 of these and it's rare to find one in which all the door locks work. I've never tried to swap one over from my parts car - of course, not sure if those are even good. Car was wrecked and not running when I got it. Since I can reach all 4 locks from the driver's seat, it doesn't bother me. A short person or woman might feel different. If you were here in Houston, I'd tell you to come grab these, if you want them. I already have door panels off.
Yay necroposting! The door lock motors (mostly) crap out on these. I know I replaced the front two over the years, and I think I've replaced all four. The driver's door lock motor has crapped out again, so I just unlock it with the mechanical key (outside) and remember to flip the toggle to "locked" (inside) before I get out and shut the door. That way, when I hit the button on the remote, the rest of the doors lock and I get the flash of the parking lights. If I use the "lock" button on the driver's inside door armrest, or the remote while peering in the window, I can watch the driver's door lock toggle kind of twitch, but it doesn't flip all the way over to "locked". There were (are?) some extremely cheap door lock motors for these cars on Ebarf/Spamazon, but I heard that they lacked some kind of switch contact to prove that all was well, so the car alarm tended to go off when you used them. I also think some people have cracked their motors open and have either lubricated or replaced the motor, I think, but I don't have any details on this. This may be common to other Toyota models from this time (Camry, etc.)
