It's still under factory warranty - why would anyone mess with it and potentially void their warranty????
Prof. Kelly's videos are usually great for understanding how your car is built and works. That's of interest to some owners, even if they're not going to tinker with anything right away.
Exactly my interest. Learned a few things about the Gen5 Prius Prime Battery. -it uses 12v power to warm the battery. <Big edit here> -The battery cells have the same dimensions and pole/vent features as prismatic cells used in first Prius Prime (Gen4) batteries. I already knew much about the High Voltage battery, as mine was replaced under warranty in July 2024. Leaky refrigeration line in battery. Always interested in the hardware and software in the vehicles I drive.
Not by a long shot—maybe you were distracted when that part went by? The early Prius generations used "modules", of a prismatic shape, where each module consisted of six NiMH cells (you couldn't take a module apart—non-destructively, anyway—to separate the six individual cells). They weren't exactly the same across all generations: they changed for gen 2 (at least) to get the dimply metallic sides, and different internal connections between cells. They were close enough people sometimes interchanged them. The battery in this video is made of big Li-ion single cells, each one of a prismatic shape. The shape is the only commonality with the early Prius battery modules. He did say, though, if I remember right, that the cell he held up in his hand came out of "the first-generation Prius Prime" (italics mine). The first-generation Prime is a very different animal than the first-generation Prius. And he did say while the dimensions of the cell are the same, the terminals are a little bit different.
Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding of Mr. Kelley's comparison of the Prismatic cells and that the Gen1 was not compared. The first Prius Prime gen (I think Gen4 Prius Prime ). I will correct my post so as to not add to anyones confusion.
