It would be easy enough to make a locking mechanism that would use a small piece of flat bar that passes horizontally through the grill, then turns to vertical when locked. A hood lock kit or something similar might do the trick.

Since you are trying to keep the cold air out... you could call it
    "CryoLock" or "CryoWall".

Another possibility for the material used... clear or frosted lexan. This would open up possibilities for some wild lighting effects.

As to the matter of affixing the as yet unnamed product to the lower body work, the go-fast boys use quarter-turn fasterers to secure engine cowlings, access panels, etc. One brand is Dutz, these folks have a representative sample:

    Pegasus -Self-Ejecting 1/4-Turn Fasteners

(Franklin, you probably already know this, my apologoes if so.)

"Dutz" is to quarter-turn fasteners as "Velcro" is to hook-and-loop fastenings.

Some years ago I used a non-permanent plastic fastener that had some serious grab. It consisted of two identical adhesive base pads, each about 2 inches square. On each there maybe 144 tiny protrusions that for the life of me looked like itty-bitty incandescent bulbs. The globe was about 3/32" diameter, on 1/16" diameter necks, each bulb standing about 5/32" tall. Once the protrusions on the two pads were fully mated, while it was possible, it was all you could do to separate them with bare hands. They really gripped. I have no idea what they are called. I think I got them at an outdoor outfitter.

It sounds like you're well into the final design. Opening and closing louvers appear not to be included, at least not in the initial iteration. Last night while searching for bits and pieces for a project, I got lost in the jungle of HVAC parts. They have some very interesting moveable louvers with small rotary action actuators: but they may be only 120v AC.

There are some really sexy motors/actuators/controllers under the general search term "motion control."

Lastly, and regrettably off subject, I discovered that there are fluid logic switches; little ones, big ones, complicated ones, lovely ones, apparently used in medical applications. These things are cool beyond words. Just for fun, try this:

    Custom Fluid Circuits

"FrostBiter" - bite back against the efficiency losses of winter!

One other consideration: You may want to add a hole for the engine block heater plugs that people have had installed in the lower grill...

    HeatShield? WinterFront? ColdFront? WarmFront?

If you wanted to make something fancy with better fog lights, and a thermostatically controlled opening, you'd have more room to play with if you took the lower grille out first.

    No, really. The Demi-bra.

It's like a bra, only much smaller... low-cut.

Quick Block or The Quick Blocker. It says alot in a short name .
Ease of installation and it's purpose .You could also have upper and lower Quick Blocker as well .

Also i would stick to using zip ties to secure it to the oem .You could have pre drilled holes 5 in all. The 4 corners and the middle cut off excess and push the locking part in the hole. With the ties black and the product black
the look should be ok .The hole should be re enforced with grouments.
A day like today i be removing some foam it will be 55 here in ny .
So i thought you may want to offer several types with different amounts of blocking .Ok anymore of my ideas we will need to talk %.
Also if you go into production overseas i work for a international Chinese
company who imports from all over Asia into the states.

This is a lot of fun. Here's a last proposal:

    Product name: Damm-It!

The second 'm' should make the name unique and trade markable upon proper application and approval. The casual reader sees 'damn.' But no, there is a misspelling, Is it a typo or intentional? In either case, it pushes the limits of civil discourse in polite company.

The 'Damm' spelling may be taken as is a faint allusion to the "Kamm Back" aerodynamic rear body design which the Prius arguably has.

Product Descriptor: Aerodynamic Radaitor Inlet Blocking Shield -- ARIBS

    Damm-It! ARIBS

Is that another intentional misspelling? Is this a politico-economic statement?

Now really! That would be reading far too much into this simple exercise.
