Hey, I just got a new black '08 Prius and want to upgrade the rims...I have read a lot about how changing the rims/tires can negatively affect the mpg due to the aerodynamics...therefore, I'm looking for options that will be stylish but won't give up much mpg if any...also, if I upgrade to another set of 15" rims, can I keep the tires that came with the car (I know, sorry, but i'm a newbie)?

Thanks for your suggestions and input...

Well, he says he wants new rims! I run 205/60R15 tires on my Prius and took about a 1-2 MPG hit going from a 185/65R15, so I'm guessing going up to a 215/60R15 will loose about another 1 MPG.

Yer pays yer money, yer takes yer choices!

I've thought about doing this...will this affect MPG in any way? If not, I'm going to do it ASAP.

I've not read about nor experienced and negative effects on milage. I can still pull off 60mpg tanks if I really try. :) Unfortunately I have to deal with other drivers so I give up and settle for 52-55mpg tanks. lol

Best I could ever pull off with the 17" wheels and 215s was about 49mpg and that was a good day. My average with normal driving was about 45mpg. Same driving style with the stock wheels/tires is 52mpg. :(

I hate other drivers, they screw up everything. :biggrin1:

Re: Upgraded Rims - I just saw a thread where someone removed the covers from the touring rims and powdercoated the rims to match the color of the car (white). I think this would look good on a black car and shouldn't hurt the mileage much at all. But you would need 16" tires to fit the 16" touring rims.

If no one else drove I could get 100mpg tanks all the time! Hahaha

Powdercoating is pretty pricey isn't it?

Not sure. They didn't say how much they paid to have it done.

I just saw the thread a day or so ago, but I don't remember the thread title.

Nice camera, bad lighting. :) Clean car!

I take it you were in the Green Valley area? Not too manny chaparral covered hills in Fairfield other than that area. ;)

I grew up there and still work at one of the local stereo shops twice a week.
