    Hi Galaxee,

Your DH's fuel tank dissection efforts and photos are well known throughout the various Prius online communities! I studied them closely in the past when I was a PriusChat lurker. The Hybrid13 Fuel and EVAP System.pdf file stored at autoshop101.com is also a good reference document.

If your challenge referred to the short rubber hose that is secured with two cheap hose clamps, then it appears that the hose is attached to the charcoal canister. Please see the second page of the attached exploded parts diagram; note the drawing of the charcoal canister located on the right side of the page, and see the rubber tube with the cheap hose clamp.

    Hi ZC1,

Well, the official name of the unit is the Brake Control Power Supply Assembly. The name may be misleading, but it is what it is. See attached page for more info.

Sort of global this interweb thingy, even Aussies if they pedal hard enough <reference to flying doctor radios used it the outback before power was available> can see some of the stuff on it.

you know there are lots of short rubber hoses in that area that are secured with two cheap hose clamps. ;) the hose in the picture is not the same one as the hose you refer to in the pdf.

in that case, the location is also wrong. i incorrectly interpreted your response. and i gave a big hint away in the process.

lol... ok so i should have worded that a little better. :p

no liquid-phase substance should be inside this line.

Are the following documents not acceptable?
Check page 6-6 of the brake Toyota training document and page 5-11 of the chassis Toyota Training document.

In both documents, it is called the Power control backup unit
    and
if that is it's purpose and actual function, then I'd perfer the correct naming structure and usage, despite one replacement page shortening the name or overlooking the proper name.

    I'm open to correction, anyway.

    next clue:

look carefully at what it connects to on the right side of the picture. not many connections to that part- narrows down the field a LOT.

ZC1 is on the right track but did not give the right destination.

Correction: According to the document I have the EVAP does not connect to the Charcoal cannister.

Location: On top of the fuel tank
Purpose: EVAP purge line (connects to fuel tank level thingy)

    My guess
Location: - inside steel casing of fuel tank left side.
Purpose: - allow fuel vapour to escape to the filler neck when refueling.

location inside fuel tank housing above bladder is correct.
it is indeed one of the evap lines.

next clue: it comes from the white box on the right side of the pic- which is the sub-tank assy that contains the fuel pump.
if you have the diagram of the fuel system, and read previous answers, this will rule out all other possibilities.

(The documents/photos I'm looking at don't seem to be consistent and show what seems to be an older style of fuel tank. Oh well...)
