Toyota's website price vs. window sticker

I bought a 2009 Prius with package 2 for $22,900 in Feb. I went through the internet where you deal with the fleet salesmen. Two dealers called with prices that were below the sticker price. There was a $500 rebate at that time. Good luck

 

many dealers do not carry a base model. dealers stock package 2 more than anything else.

 

IL dealers buy their cars from the Chicago Region. There are 12 or 13 regions & I doubt that any of them import every Prius combination. When you build your Prius on the Toyota website you'll get a choice of option packages based on your zip code.

Southeast & Gulf States Regions are notorious for adding PIO (port installed options) & extra fees. It doesn't happen at every dealer so shop around.

You aren't going to be able to make an apples to apples comparision between a 2009 & a 2010. The options are packaged differently and all of the 2010's are "Touring".

You're choosing the wrong "base" model and price for adding on options.

The $22,000 MSRP model is called the "Standard" model. It's stripped compared to some prior years' base models -- no seat back pockets, no heated outside door mirrors, no cruise control, no tonneau cover, no wheel trim rings [and I think no high resolution MFD (I think you get a low resolution MFD that cannot support the backup camera)], etc.

The next model on which you start adding the different package #s beginning with package #2, is called the "Base" model (and sometimes called package #1) and has a MSRP of $23,375. For that $1,375 difference, the seat back pockets, heated outside door mirrors, cruise control, tonneau cover, wheel trim rings, [high resolution MFD,] etc. get added back in.

So the math for package #2 would be $23,375 (Base Model - package #1) + $175 (package #2) + $720 destination/shipping = $24,270.

And the third model is, of course, the Touring Edition, which has a starting MSRP of $24,270.

Bob there are 3 types of 2009 Prius models 1220 base, 1224, and the touring 1226. You cant get the 1220 with any type of package atleast not in the SE. What happens to the Base models is they come to the port and the Port adds wndow tint, rims and Toyo guard etc etc etc. I use to work for VW and if recall they had the Rabbit, Beetle and Jetta for $14,999.00 and our dealership go no cars for that price. In fact in the florida area there where only a handful of those cars and by time they got to the states the port addes all sorts of garbage to it it jacked the price up a couple grand. Same thing is going to happen with the 2010 Toyota is going to come out with this ultra low price and NO dealer is going to have it for that price. Ill give you a for instance the New Venza came out and they have it on the website starting at $25,975.00 I just did a search through the entire SET and found only 6 of them below 29k.

 

I'm in the Chicago region. I currently have all three models in stock. a 1220, a 1224, and a 1226. Here are the prices (MSRP, not your price):

1220: $22,919 including floor mats.
1224: w/ Pkg #2 (HG), $24,469 including mats.
1226: w/ Pkg #2 (HG), $25,364 including mats.

All numbers include destination. That is for the Chicago region. If you tell me about where you are in Illinois, I might be able to recommend a dealer for you. At the very least, I can tell you what they have in inventory right now.

 

Re the 2010 vs 2009, I'm with you. It's an improved vehicle, but more importantly, the 2009 discount is not yet significant enough to warrant the trade off. The best buy I have been offered is $26+ for a #1226 with package 6, and I believe I can live w/o the leather and GPS for a mechanically superior model with a bit more elbow room.

 

I can understand that Bob. I can only say that you may want to see if Toyota does anything with rebates come May 5th... Maybe it gets a little better???
