I get to S4 almost immediately compared to before. Like I said, there's a stoplight about 0.2 miles from my house. It's magnetically triggered and biased to cross-traffic. Previously, I would sit there and idle or shut down. Now I go into S4 when I come to a stop.

From that point (for the rest of the initial 5 minutes), it's 40-45 mph speed limits. I can stealth and glide easier than I previously could but still can't account for the consistent 25mpg first segment.

Can you keep your speed under 40mph in that 40-45mph zone? If you're getting to S4 that quickly and can keep your speed a tad lower you should be able to get better MPG. With a similar route I often see 50-75mpg in the first 5 min on roads that are certainly a lot steeper.

I try to keep it under 40 but I'm very aware of surrounding traffic. Even though there are two lanes traveling in both directions, I try to not be an obstruction.

Here's one that's bugged me for a while.
Often, after ascending a hill, I can not stealth at speeds less than 40 mph. I glide down the hill, sometimes accelerating >40 mph then use the gas to maintain speed up the other side. Once I crest the hill, Priapus will not stealth. Too fast for the EV button (I always average 35 - 40 mph at that spot). This will last for the entire plateau until I go downhill again.

This is where a scangauge comes in handy. If your coolant temp reaches 176F I think the engine stays on to get the coolant flowing through the system or something like that. It takes about a minute to get through that.

An alternative explanation is that the battery SOC is too low. I think that is what happens to me sometimes, even though the MFD display doesn't show it (immediately).

Try going up the hill with a bit more pedal next time.
