Each BMS module can monitor 8 cells. When a cell drops below 2.5V, the BMS gives an audible alarm. If that cell drops below 2.5V and all of the others are substantially higher, then I would change the cell out. The first one to alarm is the weakest link in the chain.

I plan on setting the display on each BMS module to show the lowest voltage of the 8 cells that it is monitoring. I am hoping to place the monitors in a place where I can see the displays in my rear view mirror. Hopefully I can read the mirror images.:D

Stuff I found on the Enginer kit.
Battery can be bought online for $44 each. Search the battery model TS-LFP40AHA on google, and your will find several vendors exporting it directly directly from China.
The battery is made by a company called Thunder-Sky. It is a Hong-kong-based company manufacturing batteries in China (therefore, lower cost).
    Thunder Sky Energy Group Limited
(click on English at the upper right corner if needed)

If one just buys the kit (w/o batteries) for $995, and buy batteries at @44 each. You can save even more. Just FYI.

Good find ceric! But remember that the batteries in the Enginer kit come packaged in sets of four (held together with with steel straps) with the solid copper connectors between each cell. Also included is the $1000 adder are the BMS modules and braided copper connectors that are used between packs. By the time you add up the cost of the copper parts and the BMS and the time and effort to assemble everything properly, you might find that there is no cost difference at all.

OK, $44.00 each, but on China.
Then you do have to add FREIGHT from the port of origin, usually shipp freight, being that you are importing things, you have to paid CUSTOMS fees in to the USA, then transportation charges....
I think that the 44 will be more than $65.00.
In a recent order placed to Thunder Sky for a LARGE bulk order in May 2009 of LiFePO4, the best price we got is $1.10 AH plus all the trimmings above.

LOL!!! You can tell that we have been hacking PHEV conversions in the back yard for so long, and to save money, that people are even trying to cut costs or do modifications on the Enginer pack before it even gets here! LOL!!!

Lets give the crew at Enginer the props they deserve by even bringing this pack to the market. They have done all the testing and work for us. As with any new product, I'm sure there are some bugs to work out, but we will just have to see how it performs before we think about modifying the modification. :)LOL!

I don't think any of us will know the impact of the Enginer PHEV pack until we simply TEST it and share the data.

If the Enginer works properly, it will be huge!! I see these packs as an affordable way for everyone to plug-in.:D

So far so good with my Enginer plug-in. I have only filled up once, but I made a 100 mile round trip on Sunday and my fuel indicator hadn't moved off the highest full level indicator. Jack Chen has been great to deal with.

Definitely visit their booth in Long Beach if you get a chance.

    Hi there,
Just curious how your MPG is and if there are any problems with your kit? I am getting mine installed next week.

    Let me know,

    Tim

    Hi there,

Going to be in LA next week for my install, any thoughts? Is the kit working as advertised? What type of gauge do they install to know when the kit has a full charge vs. depleted?

That is an issue. The only way I'm aware of it indicating low charge is the red LED idiot-light on the switch assembly.

Yes, the red light goes on when the system shuts down. But before the system shuts down automatically, you will get an audible alarm from one of the BMS modules when the lowest cell drops to 2.8V.

Just received Fedex shipping numbers for two 60lb packages. I assume one is the diy kit and the other is 2kw of batteries. I ordered 4kw so I expected 180 lbs total.

I sent a message to Jack about the descrepancy.

Jack said that they expected that the bulk of the orders were for the 2kwh kit but to thier surprise, most orders are for the 4kwh kit. He sent me the 2kwh kit, more batteries to arrive in a few weeks.

I checked Fedex and my delivery date changed from today to 8/11 for one package and 8/13 for the other. I'm a bit bummed, i had hoped to do the install this weekend.:(

I just got confirmation that all 3 packages totaling 180 pounds are going to arrive tomorrow from FedEx:). I hope to install the Enginer PHEV 4Kw system this weekend. I will return and report.
