Fix the map sensor bolt to plug it back in properly. did you plug the ignition wires back in?
check coolant if it’s low, sounds like a head gasket. White smoke indicates coolant is being burned in the combustion chamber.

What’s the check engine light code?
I assume they lap the valves and checked if it’s all sealed?

Yep, I had to bang on the hood for it to pop up. Overtime the latch becomes sticky, so it won’t release as if it was new.
That’s probably your early signs of a head gasket failure. Mine happened like that, then 80k miles later, misfire on cylinder 1 and low coolant.
