Been busy at work so it took me a while to finish and post back.

After a brief yet colorful argument with a potentiometer, my board is fully functional and installed! One picture below is just the finished board and the other is the installed board. I mounted it to the glove box side of the wiring harness where the circuit is tied in to. All is working well.

For anyone else building this, I believe that Mike meant to refer to ping 6 rather than 5 for the 1.2V reference (at least on my IC).

Thanks Mike for the design work. I really despised not being able to use the keypad while driving!!:D

Glad you got it working Brian. Yup - should have said pin 6 instead of pin 5.

Ok, so this is new, but not really, since this is a 'dead horse' but based on the 'two-purple wire diagram I have seen, which one should I have to cut to watch video on a package #6 (no nav) Prius. Please advise, thanks!

When I want to dial a number while moving, I dial from my phone. It works!

Great. Thanks. Except I'm asking about watching video on long trips (for the passengers).

If your car doesn't have Nav then you shouldn't even see the NAV ECU wire. Have you looked?

seems we are in the same boat. i installed the sl2vi for my ipod touch and want to watch videos on my nav screen. i installed a parking brake defeat switch, now i need to figure out which purple wire to add a switch to.

also, from reading the 13 pages of this thread, it seems the main feature of cutting the nav purple wire is to be able to mess with nav addresses while moving. this thread also mentions that the nav purple wire bypass will time out, making you turn the switch on and off again to get 30 seconds more to enter your info.

i wonder if this will be the same issue with watching video on the nav screen? i am going to cut the wire in the next week when i have some time and find out.

on a positive note, i read someone on this forum has done it and it does work...

Haven't tried this mod but if the timeout does become an issue, you could simply build the timer circuit used in the NAV / BT override. That in theory would have the same fake out affect for video that it has on the NAV system.

Did this for a car with no NAV and it works like a champ! No timeout, I only had one purple wire and I cut it at the MFD, connected it a switch and voila! Only observerd drwaback are the disappearance of the '5 minute bars' and the rotating wheels. One side question, does the gloveboxe light stay lit, even if it's not open, when the headlights are on? Can someone please check this for me? If so, what's the glovebox switch that is supposed to turn it off? Thanks!

Stays lit whenever the headlights are on. It's an LED so very low energy use, more reliable and longer life than using a switch.

I am interested in cutting the speed sensor wire to the MFD so that I can still get to the CD folders while driving, but my wife likes the spinning tires and green bars so I'll be putting in a switch.

Will intermittently disabling the speed sensor wire make the mpg readout inaccurate?

    Thanks.

While the 5 minute bars on the Consumption screen will be messed up during the times you use the speed sensor defeat the overall MPG is kept accurately.

Aren't there pin extraction tools for these connectors so you can pull the pin out of the connector instead of cutting the wire?

just did both wires on a 2009 with nav. and you don't have to reset it after 1.5 miles. It just allows you to input anything without reseting.

Just wondering where you all put your switches???... trying to find a place now. Also does anyone have any pics of where they put their switches?

    Thanks for all the help.

I used a small butter knife to pry off the top part of the vent panel then pulled the whole thing out with one yank.

There is a product I call "sticky gloves" that is cloth coated with rubber dots. They were sticky enough for me to pull out the vent assembly between the glove box and screen. It's important to pull both top and bottom at the same time - it tends to jam further if you just pull at one end.

Re: Phonebook and number dialing while moving

Brosnan, just want to say thank you for the great photo. I installed a simple DPDT toggle switch today and it went very smoothly thanks to your post. It's in the upper center of the grey cowling between the driver and passenger feet. Works great and I'm very happy to have the nanny off my GPS, phone, and audio!

it is now 2013 , 3 years since last post here..
this is the best place I found for the 2004-2005 prius unlocking the speedlock. Thank you guys!

here is another place I saw
    Prius Speed Wire

so the lockpick by coastal is not offered for 2004-05 anymore, beside that only works till update nav dvd 10.1
we are now upto 13.1 . so lock pick not a good idea, now even if you dont care for the newest dvd and want to go with an old DVD version that has override feature like 4.2 or 5.1 gen4 (or 4.2/6.1 hybrid) the problem is the override has to be activated everytime your turn on the car which is annoying.

so the BEST solution is right here in this forum...
unfortunately this thread is so old that most links and pictures are working, I just want to see how peoples creativity worked out and where people put there switches. I belive the Reed magnetic switch is the best way so if anyone has good pics or idea where to put the switch I would appreciate it!

Wow, the time it took to take apart, reverse engineer, and make that circuit for the automatic phone + navi hack....serious skillz Brosnan. As for me, I didn't want to have to solder together my own apollo lander to do it, so I hid the 1/4" DPDT switch inside the upper glove box. It takes a little reach to get to it from the driver seat, but it's not too bad. I wanted something discrete, but accessible at the same time. CAM00095.jpg CAM00096.jpg
