You guys need to think when you drive your car back to the dealers some of the oil will be still draining back down into thte pan, and if they check it after it was just running it will not be as high as it would if you wait an hour.

Good thinking Ace. Here's what the owner's manual says:

With the engine at operating temperature and turned off...
wait more than 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the bottom of the engine.

So, the tech should have known that when he measured the level after I drove up and said he didn't think it was really all that much over the max line.

How nice, This guy must have the Magic Touch?

PS. I will have to try that trick next time I am in the garage. :)

This is a very common problem. I had oil overfilled in my RAV4 every time it was serviced in 2 different dealerships. At the same time no problems with Corolla serviced by the same dealership. Go figure?

Next time, I will specify only add 4 quarts and give me the bottle for the 5th quart so I can use part of it to top up the oil if it is needed during the 10K interval to the next change.

That is a new one. Good to learn new things from the experts. I doubt if the techs use the stick at all. Drain old oil, put new oil in, move on to the next car asap.
