I guess I do too much risk mitigation at work, so at home, I take the opposite approach. ( I design medical equipment, some risk, and plenty of mitigation). I will keep my eye on the battery though, but then again I am only one data point, so the statistics aren't meaningful.

After reading all the battery posts...I decided to check the 12 volt charge on our newly acquired 06 Prius. After sitting overnight and with everything off I had 11.9 volts. Turning on the lights and a/c blower brought it down into the 10 volt range within 7-10 seconds. I'm new to this Prius thing...but not new to mechanics. So I figure the battery is toast! If it were in a conventional car...it probably wouldn't start the engine.

Based on recommendation of the Forum, I ordered the Optima kit from eLearnAid.com. Although I'm sure I could have found a cheaper...lesser expensive...way to go, I believe that time is money and there is a measure of satisfaction in the non-economy method! ...not that there's anything wrong with that! :) I will report back on the delivery and installation.

Thanks to the group for such great information...appreciated!:)

What's your display reading on the Prius? How's you MPG?
    I'm looking into using a U1 Wheelchair Battery(12V 35Ah), AGM. Thanks.
BTW, there is a Sealed version of the your battery. It also has 330 CA.

BTW, if anyone interested in Economy Method and want the safer approach, you can buy Batteries Plus SLIU1HP lawnmower battery for $37. It's a Sealed Flooded battery with Vent. (Might need special tube or straw).Link
If you're afraid of spillage, you can put it in a Marine Battery Box($13).
Only problem with Lawnmower batteries is that they don't last as long. 2 years in general, maybe 3 if they are well maintained.

My mum has a rechargable electric lawn mower, the battery generally lasts about 5 years. Of course the battery in that is too big for a Prius.

How many miles and which state do you live? The warranty may cover it.
