I just bought a scan gage & i read that quite a few people have them. Think I have the set up installed correctly it was somewhat complecated for me. I know you can show up to 4 functions @ one time, so I would like to know what are the most common 4 functions that you most often show on the screen at one time. ;)

I find that I use RPM, Amps, Water temperature and Power in Kw the most. Once the car is warmed up (beyond 160 degrees) I switch the water temp to instantaneous MPG. I sometimes use the Soc state of charge gauge.

Some of these are x gauges.

Agree .... those are the most important stuff you MAY want to know but can not get from the car directly ...

good luck and later you should find even more usefull thing out of ScanGauge ...

I am not selling the thing !!!!

    These have been favorites...

FTW - Coolant temperature. This is by far the most informative. Heater & EV behavior is based directly upon this value.

RPM - This gives you a strong appreciation for what the power-split device is able to deliver in conjuction with the 2 motors. Sometimes the engine runs at surprisingly low speeds. And of course, sometimes not at all.

MPG - That's nice to know, since the gauge goes beyond the 100 limitation of Prius itself.

MPH - Used for the filming of my Prius videos.

...though my gauge is older and doesn't have newer goodies like SOC (State Of Charge for the battery).

    I have:
    RPM
Water temp, because I blocked my lower grill.
    Mile per gallon
    Fuel use per hour.

I normally keep the following up:

    Coolant temperature
    RPM
    MPG
Cabin temperature (Once close to setpoint I vary this one.)

On the GenII I generally use:

    RPM
    MPG
    Engine Coolant Temp
    SOC

On my new GenIII I now use:

    RPM
    MPG
    Loop (open/closed)
    SOC

Because the GenIII and Scangauge don't always get along, I used the Loop gauge to help tell me when the ICE is truly off so I know when I am in glide or warp stealth mode. Once I learn the car I will switch this to engine coolant temp.
    Loop (open or closed)

I think you meant FWT (Fahrenheit Water Temperature), not For The Win. :)

For me, I have no Gen 3, but I have no use for MPG. I never even bothered trying to calibrate my SG so that the MPG figures are ok. I figured, I already have 2 measurements (manual calculations and MFD). Why bother w/yet another estimator?

I don't need MPH as I've already got that in front of me.

On my Gen 2, I mostly use (I might have the capitalization wrong):
Bta - to see HV battery amps going in/out
    RPM - ICE RPM
IGN - ignition timing, so I can use Super Highway Mode
    FWT - already mentioned

If the ICE is warned up, I sometimes switch FWT to Soc to see HV battery SOC %.

Andrew, the GenIII doesn't show instantaneous mpg like the GenII did. Even then it couldn't tell you when you were in a true glide or warp stealth since mpg stopped at 99.

Ahh, I see about the Gen 3. Right, there's only the vertical curved bar graph to the right of the speedometer.

Yep on the 2nd point. I never really paid much attention to true glide vs. "warp stealth". Maybe I should. For me, I'm not totally convinced that the ICE is drawing no fuel unless RPM == 0 or there's something that tells me for certain there's 0 fuel flow. On my Gen 2, if I pulse and glide <41 mph, I look to see if ICE is off by checking for RPM == 0.
