I'm fed up with the 2012 Nav unit that takes 3 presses with my eyes off the road to do anything instead of one press like my 2010. Has anyone looked behind each of them and do you know if I can replace the 2012 head unit with a 2010 head unit?

Your entire audio system, bluetooth, everything's tied into the Entune head unit. And, its size ... for one.. is way different. I'd say NO.

I really hope Toyota's listening. There seem to be lots of complaints about these newer nav systems that come in the '12 models.

I've only briefly looked at the '12's nav system and it is totally different than that of earlier gen nav systems.

Have you ever noticed how Toyota de-features the Nav features when the car's moving, EXCEPT for a huge legal notice which appears every time you start the Nav?

Isn't it dangerous to read the long disclaimer while driving?

What exactly are you referring to that takes 3 steps?
I find the 2012 Dispaly audio nav unit to be far better than the 2007 Denso unit.
And it maintains almost full functionality while moving and voice recognition is much better and user friendly.

The lockout above 3 mph has been going on Toyota/Lexus nav systems for ages. :/

One example is using the Nav system to go home. With the 2010, press Dest then Home. With the 2012, the same action is: Apps, Map, Dest, My Destinations, screen with 5 itty bitty icons, My Destinations, Home. On the 2010 each audio input has a hard button. On the 2012, I select audio, Source, then press the right button - with my eyes off the road to look for the icons.

I measured them and the size is identical from the front. Since I drive in stop and go traffic in the San Francisco bay area, I consider Entune extremely dangerous to use when compared to the 2010 with hard buttons for frequently used features.

call me wacky. . . . But I don't understand why you don't just use the talk button on your steering wheel. Isn't the PiP's NAV identical to the standard Prius in that regard? Am I missing something?

You complainers are making things more difficult than need be.
Just press the talk button and say " favorite home". Done
For audio just press the talk button and say the source. If you want to push buttons just push audio twice for the source list.

Just like Siri, Prius voice recognition system doesn't understand me most of the time and I have to constantly GO BACK. And I had voice training for acting and voice over work. Go figure...

The base PLugIN car like mine or any other Prius has a 6.1" screen and it is absolutely without question smaller.
If you measured an advanced tech car screen, then it is the same 7".

I'm definitely doing more GO-BACK-ing w/ voice recognition in our PiP/Adv than in the 2010 V/Adv. The 2010 truly impressed me because it does a better job than most VR systems do with my low voice. Went so far as to dig though the PiP NAV manual which recommends turning down the fan and making sure vents are pointed away from the mic. If that doesn't work I'm going to try a Japanese accent...

I don't like that the steering wheel Map button is now gone on the 2012 PiP. Every time I have to revert to the map from, say, a phone call in progress, I have to take eyes and a hand off the controls & the road. The Gen II steering wheel Map button was innocuous until it got gone :-<<< now I miss it.

OK. I need guidance. What's the vocal command to stop the car from directing you? I used to be able to say "suspend guidance"... now what? (Last night, in a fit of hilarious frusration on the way home from dinner, I said "Shut the hell up!" to see if the engineers had planed an easter egg like we'd had before... no luck there either!!!)

Simply touch 'options' then touch 'stop guidance'

Is there a verbal one? "suspend guidance" used to work on the old Nav...
