A broken link to the "Internet Wayback" archive (for those who get the Mr. Peabody joke) is not much use as something to give to kids pumping gas for fast facts on carbon footprints.

Four fast facts and a QR code to scan for a easy to read phone graphic would work.

well if you follow CWERDNA's Prius wiki there is a link to Toyota, where Toyota says they do their own eco-impact analysis of Toyota cars, but of course they did not supply us any of their results.

Well, it's not broken. It's too bad that Toyota removed (or moved?) it for some reason, hence needing to point to the Wayback Machine.

If Toyota or someone else has better material, feel free to add it to the Wikia.

I like this paper but they are comparing to Li battery packs so it is probably similar for NiMH. The paper would fit for PiP but not PHV right now.

When people bad mouth my Prius I simply tell them I get ~55 MPG and that's all I really care about. I tell them I don't care about their car and they shouldn't care about my car. That usually shuts them up. I don't say it maliciously. I just say it like who cares man.

I didn't get the fonts, but I can tell from the opening why they might not think its current. It focuses on CO2, and uses european distances, 100,000 km in 10 years. That may look misleading about savings versus a diesel in europe. It also does not address the nickel battery polution issue.

Nickel isn't big polluting because of ghg, mining releases all types of toxins. Most of the bad press had to do with the Canadian mining practices before the prius, where clouds of poison Sulfur, as well as lead, arsenic, and other nasty stuff got pumped into the environment. Mining practices are better now, but there still is heavy pollution with nickel mining. No one asks about all the pollution when you buy stainless steel though. The point has to be prius batteries get recycled. Does anyone know the percent of recycled nickel pev uses?

Well it is. It dead ends on Wayback.

But here it is attached now to PriusChat forum. So if that provides a working link (and it does), now I just do the card with top four points and the QR code for the files link.

I'll see if I can create a "Make a business card" link that people can download and print on their color printers which will have four facts and the QR on the back to the PCForum file link.

    1. Prius beats Hummer (and everything else)!!
    2. Prius has the smallest lifetime carbon footprint of any car.
    3. Prius battery 100% recyclable.
    4. Number 4?

    Weird.
    Code:
    http://web.archive.org/web/20090612061919/http://www.toyota.co.jp/en/k_forum/tenji/pdf/pgr_e.pdf
brings up an interstitial page on the Wayback Machine and then brings up the PDF for me.

I got the pdf, it just was missing some fonts. I could have gone to adobe and downloaded them separately, but didn't think I needed to read anymore than the intro.:)

"the batteries in a Prius are recycled. Can you say the same for the chrome bling on all these 15 mpg cars or the batteries sold by the boatload to run electronic gadgets?" "And by the way, Prius batteries are migrating to Li these days - the same stuff you throw in the trash almost daily."

"you may want to know, the bad rap that Nickel mining has was from poor enviro practice years before Prius was invented. It is much better today, at least in Canada where the FUD originated."

"I'm glad to hear you think about the environment. What do you drive ?"

Those are the folks that still believe Art Spinella who taught us that the Hummer is greener than the Prius. Only where is Mr Spinella now . . .
    :D

Spinella wrote his 'Green Hummer' piece back in GM's pre bankruptcy days. It's enough to say he'll never admit who sponsored his paper. Even so - all of the so called self-proclaimed experts know what side of the bread that the butter is on.

It will come out. This sh1t usually does. And then the perps say "under the bridge" and "now we are different."

Now that GM is government owned, I wonder if FOI applies.

You can only reply in stupidity with stupidity.

"Yeah but those batteries pollute more than the gas"

    You could reply like this:

True, but at least my prius landed me first on the moon!

If he asks you again, answer him:

"If you read again the CNW study, you will find out that NASA were testing its moon rovers on the -destroyed by the prius batteries- ontario landscape before they send them on missions! By the time being, I had been driving my prius to the moon". thats why it is called prius after all!!!!!!!!!!

^^ the kid has never heard of CNW -- that is the nature of FUD. He certainly will not understand your attempted sarcasm.

Maybe the best approach is just to say "Wow, I had no idea. Tell me more."

Then he is going to suggest you to watch the BBC Jeremy Clarkson circus TV car show, which means the discussion comes to an impasse.
