    Ray,
It sounded like you pulled the whole headliner off. Could you have accessed the connector by only pulling part
of the headliner off ? Also the second picture in your #29 post that shows the hitch connector (?). Is that picture
upside down ie. is that padding under the connector really the roof of the car ? I know that you said that you
should have gone the kick panel route, but by going the headliner route, you are in demand. :)

Whose of you how have done this DYI successfully, could you specify:
    1) What exact camera (part #) and mount did you use?
    2) The cookbook to pull the head-liner back enough to get to the camera connector.

    Appreciated.

PaJa, thanks for letting us know. I was doing a research on CCD vs CMOS and could not figure out which technology is better for this application. Any CCD 6V cameras?

I wouldn't take my headliner out. By the time you take the side panels off to get to the headliner, you can run 10 more feet of wire down the floor panels to the front kick plate.

There is an explanation of the difference from Qualir.
In short - CMOS+: cheap, simple design, fast frames applications. CMOS-: picture noise, needs more light. CCD is an opposite.
Also good to mention, that visual guidenance on screen is an useful feature. BTW, PiP (EU version) camera is without this feature.

Well, HU check the camera when boot up. But aftermarket camera requires 12V and HU gives 5.5V-6.5V. This is not enough to run 12V camera. You might try the native 6V from HU to 12V camera, it should give you ugly video. FYI, if you install everything correctly, you might not see video on the HU at the first time, but try couple times, it should work. It has done to me first. Anyway, I like the "toyota tacoma camera" but I don't like to modify the plastic mount. I ordered the another camera, it will give OEM look but it is 12V. I'm still waiting the camera shipping from China. I'll update when I get the new camera install later.

The plug is up-side-down after I pulled out. The padding is below the plug.

I cut into the wiring mentioned above and tested for voltage, can't seem to get a reading from the white wire ( +). Is there a constant feed of 6.5 v while in reverse or just during boot up? Do you hook up with the cut wires on connector side or the other? I tested both with a meter, can't get a 6.5v reading. Appreciate any info.

HU checks camera if presents while boot up. You need to connect the camera to get voltage. When I first installed, I won't make it work but all wires connected correctly! Then I drove out for shopping and started my Prius after shopping. Camera worked!

I installed a Camry back up camera ( 12 v ) fed by the reverse light, connected the camera video + and - to the RED and BLACK wires at the wiring harness I cut by the driver's kick panel ( black, red, white orange wires ). The white wire which is supposed to supply 6V to be connected to the 12 V to camera via diode. Still no picture.

I tested my camera (12V Camry) before the install by simply connecting the video output to AV input on TV set and I supplied 12V from the external power supply. After 12V connected, a picture displays on screen. This will prove that your camera is not broken.

I'm still not sure about 2 diodes bridge schematic I saw in this thread. I could not imagine how it should works and I had no time yet to experiment with. IMHO, diodes will be closed and 0V at camera end. But I'm not 100% electronic specialist, don't hit me, please :).

So borrowing liberally from Wildiin, Ray Chan, IMkenNY, and others I think I've got it down to attached. This is not a guide by any means, rather a consolidation of info already posted on this thread to install an oem camera trimmed and re-ordered to help me (and others I hope) orient themselves to the task at hand.

I think I will try the crimp connectors and maybe some T tap connectors for initial testing at the footwell. Once the final wires are in place, I might use some shrink tube too to hold the wires together and some plastidip for added security and insulation.

Does anyone have links to official guide to interior panel removal? I think that would go another step forward to getting to complete DIY for this mod.

Attached is Toyota Service Instruction PDF, although is covers unrelated instructions, it covers removal of panels. Use whatever you can on the instruction. Hope this helps.

any chance you can find instructions like these for a 2012? The instructions you posted say model year 2009, even though I think they mean 2010.

The document (prius_rearviewcamera_pz473_g0140_00_aim_001_911_1-pdf.41777) has been updated on 2011. The instructions are for 2010-2011 model year. The audio HUs were upgraded for 2012 facelift (for EU versions and US models two, three, four). Procedures displayed in the OEM manuals are sometimes more complicated than they should be, but as a guidance or idea examples they are fine.
