I am a newbie to the PriusChat, bought a new 2012 Prius 4 with "deluxe moonroof pkg" and am enjoying all the techie gadgets, but alas, the HUD doesn't work. I pressed the HUD button and the red light on the button comes on, but no HUD on the windshield. Tried increasing illumination with the appropriate switch, no luck; tried repositioning the HUD with the appropriate switch, no luck. I placed an extendable mirror over the port where the HUD light should emerge from the dash, no light. Looked down the "throat" of the HUD on the dash by going outside and looking through the windshield, no light. So I took it to Toyota dealer I bought it from, and the sales people didn't know what the HUD was, referred me to the service department, where 2 service technicians also had never heard of the HUD and didn't know what it was ("oh, like on the Corvette?") I talked to the chief of service, who came out looked at it, indicated that no light was coming out of the device, and said he didn't know what was up but would look into it, had never seen a prob with this, etc. I am waiting for a call back on this, presumably after someone from Toyota service central contacts the chief of service at my dealer. Has anyone had a similar prob with a new Prius HUD, or has anyone had one 'go out' on them? Fuse map in owners manual doesn't list it, so I haven't tried that yet.

Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear about the issue. I suspect something slip by quality control. I am pretty confident they will have you up and running soon... but keep on them.

    "No, like on the Prius!"

Here's a post in the PIP forum: The HUD is always powered up; you only switch on the light by pressing the HUD button. The OP (Original Poster) in that thread had problems after getting tint fitted to his windscreen. There may have been some water splashed down there.
Does it sound like something could have fallen into the hole in the dash?

Red light on the HUD button? It's green on my 2010. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the HUD of a similar car. (Better idea: Ask if you can do it for yourself.)

My HUD has scratches on the lens in the shape of a swan from the previous owner. (I say "from" but it puzzles me how the HUD lens could ever be scratched.) The blur is either on my speed or the HSI display.

My 2012 light is green. Red might indicate a malfunction.

I got it wrong, the HUD switch light is green and so is the Navi switch light, both switch lights work but not the HUD Projector.

The Toyota service manager said there is a tech bulletin on it, has happened before tho not at this dealer and requires replacement of ecu for the HUD unit. Dont know where that is located but he ordered the part. Will update when its repaired. I have 260 miles on the car now, 2 weeks old, and gas tank only half empty.... Anyone know where i can download a free PDF for prius repair methods??
