Ok,I've spent about 20 hrs. reading your post and this thread and....well,I'm better with a wrench,ha.
I've got the BT obd unit, the torque app,and the terminal droid app,but on that screen, bottom left ,it already has ATI,I tried adding to it and del. it to no avail. There is a big box on top to type in.??
No dealer, like that old commercial,"i'd rather do it myself.
    Thanks,steve

I think you missed her next post....

" I know you guyzzzz like this DIY stuff but if any of my clients are reading this, don't go to this expense or trouble. Just call me and pop in. My service tech can do this free in under 5 minutes. You just need to ask me. "

She has her own service tech....sorry,couldn't resist,I used to be one.[tech]

It seems like you were trying in the correct spot but it wasn't working for some reason. I used the same ELM 327 terminal app on my android phone but was able to enter commands in the lower left box (next to the "send" button). worked for me.

I ran into this too, and I think it finally "clicked" for me when I actually got the phone synced with the device. Turns out it was apparently a bluetooth issue. Be sure your phone's bluetooth is "on", then search for pairable devices. If that's connected, try the following - it may need to connect (re-connect?) from within the app. From my reply earlier in this thread:
    Good luck,
    Andy

Oh,I'm connected, got flashing cursor in big box on top,but after entering .. at sh 7c0...it comes back with ELM 327 v1.5,and flashing cursor below it again.
Bottom left box has ATI already in it....tried to overwrite.
This seems like the only/major 327 terminal Android app out there,it has a black icon with 327 in yellow in it.
Never was a dos guy,ha...thanks for your patience.

The ELM worked great for me; no more beep!

Where did you learn about these codes? Are there others that may be useful?

    Thanks!

What exact code did you enter into the 327 terminal? I think there's just the ones for seatbelt and backup beeps.
    thanks............

In post #36 in this thread, I show my terminal session including some to configure the terminal session. The ">" at the beginning of the lines is the terminal prompt i.e. what shows when it's ready to receive a command. If you aren't getting an "OK" to your AT commands, I'd recheck the Bluetooth pairing.

    Good luck!

I turned off both the backup beep and the seatbelt beep today using GaryP's info.
I used a $28 scantool I bought on the web along with the included software loaded onto my notebook.
    Worked great!

Went for 5,000 mile maintenance service appointment and asked them to make it a one beep for reverse. They said no problem and did it for FREE!! I’m already liking it.

If you have a Bluetooth scanner and an android device there has been discussions where members created custom PIDs and collected them all in a file that you can open up in the Torque app, then it's just a few clicks to choose a PID to disable reverse beeps, seatbelt warnings, and a whole slew of info tailored for Prius III/V owners. I posted a summary about it in another thread, but I've quoted it here below. The with the custom PIDs loaded onto your android all you need to do is plug in your scanner and you can choose to view custom gauges for everything from rpms to individual battery levels, and you can turn on or off reverse beeps and seat belt beeps with just a few clicks. You can plug into another Prius and make changes in just seconds too.

Yes! I am using an ELM 327 Mini Bluetooth adapter that I purchased on ebay. Using ELM327 Terminal app, 21ac generates a Bus Init Error. I assume the adapter is bad but the strange thing is that the adapter works fine with Torque (free version) app. Have you had any luck getting it to work?

Ok. I got it working. It's a little strange but with the particular ELM327 Mini that I bought, you have to first run Torque (free) and confirm that ECU is communicating (car icon on top right). Then exit Torque and run ELM327 Terminal and 21ac and the entire procedure will work. Somehow, if you don't run Torque first, ELM327 Terminal will give you Bus Init and CAN Errors indicating communications problem with the ECU.

I took mine back to the dealer, asked if they'd change it to one beep and they did at no cost to me. Seems they charged sales and appeared to enjoy passing the 'bill' onto them. Said it took them 5 minutes.

Fantastic! Thank you for the legwork OP. Only bit of advice I'll give is when copying and pasting the text to MS Word, make sure the font is times new roman, or just paste to notepad. The zeros came out looking like o's. Otherwise, easy peasy.

After reading this thread, when my wife took her V to our dealer for the first visit she asked that the beep be disabled. They said they normally charge for that, but if its within 30 days of purchase, its free. Now it just beeps once when we put it in reverse.

Therefore, we should be able to ask for it to be disabled before we even take delivery.

I'm so glad I came across this post. I'm already enjoying this forum. I've had my 2012 Prius since August and had no idea it could be changed. I've gotten used to it, but definitely would prefer the one beep. I may wait for my second maintenance service and see if they will do it for free. In my opinion the beeping is more of a distraction when I'm backing out. For the safety factor alone it's better for it to be quiet.
